Write-up on the things that you have learned from your CE Orientation Course.
The Civil Engineering Orientation course taught me about the field of Civil Engineering.
It discusses possible career options, as well as the chances available to those people like me who
pursue this discipline of engineering. Additionally, I was able to study the various fields of Civil
Engineering, including Water Resources Engineering, Materials Testing Engineering, and other
similar branches, through this course.
Of all the works of man in the various branches of engineering, the Civil engineer throws
a great bridge across the yawning chasm, which seemingly forms an impassable obstacle to
further progress. It designs and builds steel skeletons to dizzy heights for the architect to cover
and adorn. It also barrows through a great mountain and reaches the other side within a fraction
of an inch of the spot located by the original survey. It scales mountain peaks, or traverses dry
river beds, surveying and plotting hitherto unknown, or at least unsurveyed, regions. It builts our
Panama Canals, our Arrow Rock and Roosevelt Dams, our waterworks, filtration plants, and
practically all of our great public works.
In Civil Engineering Orientation Course, I have come up to realize and learned that it is
more than just understanding the mathematical and scientific concepts. It compasses more than
that. It emphasizes professionalism, integrity, and responsibility. Like in all other professions, a
worker or employee must perform certain functions and tasks with authenticity and integrity. The
CE Orientation course helped me realize how broad the field is in terms of its different branches.
I have learned that this is because civil engineering encompasses everything from construction
and structural engineering to transportation and waterworks. Various aspects of civil engineering
are discussed, as well as essential ethical considerations when we enter the field. Lastly, I have
learned about the history of the profession and become familiar with the various procedures and
methods used in civil engineering.
Through this course, future Civil Engineers will be able to become more diligent and
honest in their work as a result of this. It is essential since it explains the origins of the
profession. It illustrates how civil engineering contributes to the improvement of society by
assuring the safety of public structures. It also addresses how civil engineers collaborate with
their peers to ensure that a building project runs professionally and successfully. I have come up
to realize also that CE Orientation is vital to make future Civil Engineers know their scope of
work and the appropriate practices in relation to their interaction with society. Every civil
engineer will benefit from undergoing CE Orientation because it gives the fundamental
knowledge and skills that an engineer should have before joining the industry. Not only does it
aid with technical knowledge, but it also serves to stress the importance of an engineer's
responsibilities and how to handle any conflict that arises.
