Day 1 - Messages To Monster Hunters
Day 1 - Messages To Monster Hunters
The Mystery Society returns to the Lucky Charms motel after interviewing Reb
Watson. Everyone's peckish so you volunteer to run out to get a bucket of chicken.
You walk over to the car and get in. As you're backing out of the parking spot you
hear the phone ring inside the room...
A short drive leads to "Cluckin' Funny" where every bucket of chicken has a joke
printed on the side. You park the car and meander over to the takeout window where
you give your order to the teenager in the yellow uniform. You're not surprised
when the phone inside the phone booth on the corner begins to ring. You saunter
over nonchalantly and pick up the receiver.
"It's a nice night for a walk," says a non-descript voice, to which you reply, "The
moon is nearly full." The sign/countersign is good and you proceed to report the
day's events.
"We're concerned where this may lead." says the voice after you wind down, "We're
sending you a magazine of Banishment cartridges. They're very difficult to
manufacture so don't waste them." <click>.
The pimply teenager from inside the Cluckin' Funny window yells out "Hey mister,
your order's ready." You stroll over to the window, pay for the food, and take the
bucket to the car. Once inside, and out of anyone's view, you open the bucket's
false bottom and pull out a pistol magazine holding fifteen 9mm cartridges.
Squintin at the top-most cartridge you observe the bullet has been etched with an
intricate pattern. Just looking at it makes your head hurt. Grunting from the sharp
pain, you drop the magazine into a pocket, and start the car.
BTW, the joke printed on the bucket reads: "Have you heard about the new restaurant
on the moon?" "The food's okay, but there's no atmosphere."
Mike Damone
The Mystery Society returns to the Lucky Charms motel after interviewing Reb
Watson. Everyone's peckish so Nicholas volunteers to run out to get a bucket of
chicken. Just as Nicholas leaves, the telephone in the room begins to ring. You
look at it suspiciously. Nobody should be calling. No one knows you and Nick are
staying in this room. Maybe it's the manager, Lucky?
You pick up the phone and hear the static and popping that accompanies a long
distance call. The voice on the other end is very faint.
"Hey Mike. How are you doing?", the voice doesn't wait for a reply, "I've been
keeping an eye on you via my associate. I'm sure you noticed them at the funeral
home, and the library? They tell me you seem like a smart guy and so I have a
proposition for you. I'm making a move tonight and if you stay out of it, I'll make
it worth your while. As a gesture of good faith, look in the bible. Ephesians 5:15.
I'm almost home, Mike, and I don't want anything to block my path."
And with that the line goes dead. You stare at the receiver for a moment then
replace it in its cradle.
You open the nightstand's top drawer and pull out the bible within. Flipping the
pages you find the passage for
Ephesians 5:15 which reads "So be careful to live your life wisely, not foolishly."
There's also a piece of paper loosley inserted between the pages. It looks like it
was torn out of another book. A very old book from the paper's feel and colour.
Written on the page is "The Iron Gate" followed by a delicately drawn sigil. You
recognize it instantly as one-half of a spell. Was the mysterious voice trying to
bribe you with a magic spell?
Doc Brown
The Mystery Society returns to the Lucky Charms motel after interviewing Reb
Watson. Everyone's peckish so Nicholas volunteers to run out to get a bucket of
chicken. And boy, do you love chicken. Finger lickin' good chicken.
With nothing to do but wait, you pull out the piece of Billy's skin, and place it
under the motel room's desk lamp. The sigil doesn't appear to have been tattooed
on. It looks more like it was burned-on, like when a rancher brands a steer.
But why burn a sigil into someone that turns them in a bloody thirsty silver-screen
slasher? What is the perpertrator getting in return? And how is this connected to
the black CD labelled "662" ?
You mull it over for a while and just as an idea begins to float up to your
consciousness, Nicholas' car pulls into the motel lot. The smell of seven different
herbs and spices stomps all over any insights that were trying to surface.
Krystal Applebottom
The Mystery Society returns to the Lucky Charms motel after interviewing Reb
Watson. Everyone's peckish so Nicholas volunteers to run out to get a bucket of
chicken. When he returns, everyone hangs out in your room happily scarfing down
fried chicken and drinking cherry coke.
The group discusses the day's events hoping to get new insights but nothing
surfaces. You decide to settle in for the night and look up Samantha, the first
teenager-turned-murderer, first thing in the morning.
You have trouble falling asleep and toss and turn for about an hour before finally
closing your eyes. It seems your head had just hit the pillow when the telephone on
the nightstand rings. You blearily check the clock beside the bed. It's midnight.
You pick up the receiver and put it to your ear. "Krystal?" says a vaguely familiar
voice. It sounds like Reb, from the music store, but faint and crackling, like
they're at the bottom of a deep, deep well. "Krystal, I need your help. The black
CD. It's come back. To the store. I was just cleaning up and I saw it there on the
shelf. Help me, Krystal. Please." <click>
You stare at the phone. You never told Reb where you were staying. You didn't even
tell them your name.
What's happening?
