This garden was laid out in 1897 by the Marquis of Tweedale and is spread over 55 acres.
Lush green, well maintained lawns, rare trees species (like the cork tree which is probably the
only such tree in India, the paper bark tree and the monkey puzzle tree-monkeys cannot climb
this tree), a 20 million year old fossilized tree, an Italian-style garden bordering a clear pool, a
vast variety of flowering bushes and plants in myriad hues (exotic and ornamental), fern house
with a vast range of ferns and orchids, are some of the many highlights of this garden.
Dodabetta
At 2,623 mts above MSL, Doddabetta is the highest Peak in the Tamil Nadu and is about
10 kms. from Ooty bus stand. The name Doddabetta literally means ‘Big mountain’ in the
Badugu Language, which is so in reality. It is at the junction of Western and Eastern Ghats and
offer beautiful vistas of Nilgiri Hills range. It is surrounded by dense Sholas. One can have a
magnificent panoramic view of landscape and the whole of the District and even beyond through
the Telescope House run by T.T.D.C., which is an added attraction .
Tea Museum
Spread over an area of nearly1 acre of land, the Ooty Tea Factory is situated amid the
blue hills of Nilgiris, perched at an altitude of approximately 1839metre. Located at a distance of
around 4 km from the city-centre. It houses the Tea Museum as well where we can learn about
the origin of different kinds of tea leaves that are used across the globe along with the history of
tea in India and its evolution in the Nilgiris. While inside the factory, one can learn and
appreciate the method of tea processing by CTC (Cut, Twist and Curl) machines.
Ooty Lake
Ooty Lake is one of the most refreshing and beautiful places to visit in Ooty. It lies at
a distance of approximately 2 km from Ooty city in the green hills of the Nilgiris district.
The stunning lake is spread over an area of 65 acres, and its foundation was laid down by
John Sullivan who was the collector of Coimbatore in 1824. Ooty Lake is surrounded by
Eucalyptus trees and greenery all around and is a great place to experience the beauty of this
hill station. One can also spot numerous streams coming out through the hills.
Rose Garden
The pride of Ooty lies in the Rose Garden, which belongs to an elite club of 35 rose
gardens around the world which has won the Garden of Excellence Award for South Asia from
the World Federation of Rose Societies. Containing more than twenty thousand varieties of
roses, the Rose Garden is one of the most beautiful and well maintained gardens you find in the
country, or perhaps, the world. The climate of Ooty is ideal for the plants to have a long
blooming season.

the Palani Hills, an offshoot of the Western Ghats Mountain in Tamilnadu. Western Ghats is the
UNESCO declared Natural World Heritage Site and also one of the twenty-five biodiversity
hotspots of the world. This natural heritage site has some of the very rare and scarce plants and
animals of India. It also has untouched vestiges of original vegetation and a large number of
alien plants. The Palani Hill consists of a span of 2068 sqkm land with varied types of flora and
fauna and is proud of its heritages and natural beauty. The entire hill is popularly addressed as
Kodaikanal. Kodaikanal town is at the elevation of 2133 meters above sea level. It is 100 km
from Dindigal and 125 km away from Madurai. It is an international tourists’ destination. Today
more than 50% of the town's population is dependent on the tourism industry for survival. Many
from other states also have their shops selling handicrafts and eatables.
Lake
Kodaikanal is famous for its nature, hills, scenary and the climate. But the boat ride in the
lake adds more beauty to kodai. The place is situated in the heart of the city that provides horse
riding, cycling, boating, childrens park etc. The experience was awesome during visit of lake.
Pine forest
It's best to take a stroll through the aged super tall pine trees, click some wonderful
snaps, spend some time watching the nature at its best. We truly enjoyed the nature.
Water falls
For a break, when we get down we experienced cool breeze, when we turned up we see
an amazing water fall on the road. Nature gave us time to relax through falls that to on bright
sunny days. Thanks for Nature. The gift of nature comes in abundance, the silvercascade falls is
one such.
Guna cave
It is about a unique natural heritage site called the Devil's Kitchen or Guna Caves. It is
located at the outskirts of Kodaikanal town and it can be reached from the popular Moir Point.
The place, which remained little known and was rarely visited only by the hikers became very
popular after a Tamil movie named 'Guna' was shot here in 1992.The Devil's Kitchen is a group
of caverns located between the three gigantic boulders called as the Pillar Rocks. Like many
other sites in and around Kodaikanal, it was also discovered by an English Officer. An English
Officer named B.S.Ward discovered this unique site in 1821 CE. It is situated at an altitude of
2230 meters. tAs the pillar shaped rocks protrude out of the cliff face, they are called as Pillar
Rocks. These cliffs were covered by Shola trees and native grasses. Later, the Europeans and
Americans introduced many non-native tree species to this area. Apart from the caverns, the
gnarled Shola trees and their roots make this site as an interesting and favorite one.
The statue is on top of another hill. There are an entry gate and a ticket counter with the
parking space close to it. Vehicles cannot be taken inside to the statue area. After getting the
tickets, we went near the statue by foot. The big statue was constructed in 2005. It is of
three characters – Kuravan, Kurathi and a child. There is also a story saying that Kuravan and
Kurathi are the people who showed the site for building Idukki arch dam, which is about 40 km
from here. The two hills between which the dam is built are also named Kuravan mala &
Kurathi mala (mala meaning hill). There is a small mandapa (small pavilion) behind the statue
where we can sit and relax. From the hill, we can see the towns of Kombai towards the north-
east, Uthamapalayam towards the east and Cumbum towards the south-east.
