Two (2) viable options for the design of civil steel structure.
Option 1: By using precast concrete planks with a particular bearing system and, if necessary,
drilled piles for a foundation. This approach allows for a cost-effective and result-oriented
construction process of the bridge infrastructure. The use of concrete planks provides longevity
and strength, while the piercing piles offer stability in any ground condition.
Provide a recommendation on the preferred option and provide a reason for the
selection of the preferred option.
(200-300 words)
According to a generalisation of the two options, solution 1 is the preferred solution for the steel
structure design, which uses precast concrete planks with proprietary bearings and bored piles if
necessary. This is the most suggested option because it is inexpensive, long-lasting, and produces
an efficient output when produced.
Coused planks serve as a basis for the bridge structure, ensuring its strength and stability. Bored
piles provide structural strength under varied soil conditions. Furthermore, the use of precast
concrete planks allows for faster construction while also lowering project labour costs, making it
an ideal alternative for the project. Option 1 is particularly appropriate for the project's goals,
which include assuring reliable and cost-effective engineering for civil steel structure design.

1. Construction delays
Risk Controls:
• There were two design possibilities considered: precast concrete planks and galvanised
steel post and rail systems.
• The precast concrete option was chosen for its cost-effectiveness and durability.
Calculations:
• The precast concrete planks are 3.8m long, 3.59m wide, and 0.18m thick.
1. Loads: The total load on the precast concrete planks can be calculated as: Total Load =
Weight of Livestock + Weight of Farm Machinery Total Load = 10T
2. Shear Forces: Shear force is the force that acts parallel to the surface of the material. It
can be calculated using the formula: Shear Force = Total Load
3. Bending Moments: Bending moment is the measure of the bending effect on a structural
member. It can be calculated using the formula: Bending Moment = Shear Force *
Distance from Support
4. Stresses: Stress is the force applied to a material divided by the material's cross-
sectional area. It can be calculated using the formula: Stress = Force / Area
6. Volumes: The volume of the precast concrete planks can be calculated as: Volume =
Length * Width * Thickness
7. Mass: The mass of the precast concrete planks can be calculated as: Mass = Volume *
Density
8. Sizes of Components: The size of the precast concrete planks is already given as 3.8m
long, 3.59m wide, and 0.18m thick.
• Options under consideration include proprietary bearings, drilled piles, and galvanised
steel post and rail systems.
• expenses were broken down into three categories: fixed expenses, time-related costs, and
quantity proportional costs.
Based on calculations and design requirements, recommended sizes for components were
determined to ensure structural integrity

The civil steel construction of the Green Bridge project was built using an extensive and successful
process design. Geotechnical investigations were conducted to ensure a solid foundation that will
not give way. Surging material sourcing was employed to overcome material availability issues.
Precast concrete planks were chosen over galvanised steel supports and rails due to their cost-
effectiveness and long-term durability. To ensure structural stability, both boards and poles were
installed in accordance with thorough calculations. The specifications, which included dimensions,
materials, and construction procedures, were established with numerous joint and fastening
choices in mind. Cost estimates were provided, and the selected components were determined
based on size calculations and design limitations.

The Green Bridge design was rigorously verified to ensure that it met the feasibility and suitability
standards. Allowable load capacities, shear pressures, bending moments, stresses, and
component sizes were determined using high-precision calculations, ensuring structural integrity.
The selected design solutions, which included precast concrete planking and civil steel structures,
were evaluated for cost-effectiveness, long service life, and suitability to the project's
specifications. Detailed blueprints were created, including estimates for size, materials, and
construction procedures. Alternative joints and fasteners were evaluated to improve the
structure's performance and life duration.
Recommended changes
While the design is extensively validated, monitoring during the building stage is required to
ensure that the planned plan is carried out correctly. Periodic inspections should be organised to
detect any deviations from the design plans and correct them immediately. Finally, input from
construction teams and stakeholders should be solicited to identify any areas that require
improvement or changes during the design and construction phases. This circular structure of the
process helps to ensure that the Green Bridge project is properly manifested with as few problems
or flaws as possible during design implementation.
