ACTIVITY 1
TOPIC: SYMMETRY
Symmetry is an important geometrical concept commonly seen in nature and is used in every field of our life.
Artists, manufacturers, designers, architect and other make use of the idea of symmetry. Leaves, flowers,
clothes, mats, handkerchiefs, utensils have symmetrical designs.

What is line symmetry

Shapes or patterns can have multiple lines of symmetry, depending on how many times the shape can be
folded in half and still remain the same.

Examples:

What is Translationa symmetry

When a pattern or design is made by slliding or moving in original figure repetidely, we say that design has
translation symmetry

Examples:

What is Rotational symmetry

If a figure is rotated around a centre point and it still appear exactly as it did before the rotation, it is said to
have rotational symmetry. The number of positions in which a figure can be rotated and still appears exactly as
it did before the rotation, is called the order of symmetry.
Answer the following using above concept of symmetry
Q.1 By paper folding method divide a graph sheet in to four parts with two lines of symmetry, then
make any pattern or design using the concept of translation symmetry (figure 1)

Figure - 1 Figure - 2

Q.2 In the above figure – 2, Make a pattern such that it has four lines of symmetry and rotational
symmetry of order 4.

Q.3 List any 2 symmetrical objects with figure from your home which have

(i) Two lines of symmetry with rotational symmetry of order two.

(II) Three lines of symmetry with rotational symmetry of order three

French Holiday Homework
I. Compréhension:

1. Aller (nég) 4. Faire (inversion nég)

2. Se réveiller (aff) 5. Pouvoir (aff)
3. Tomber (inversion) 6. Comprendre (nég)

NOTE: Complete this sheet and paste it into your French notebook.

IV. On an A-3 sheet, make a collage/poster on various museums of France. (10
