1. Never attempt to open this scale, no user
serviceable parts inside.
2. Remove all loads from hook when not in use.
3. Do not remove the wire rope stopper. For
safety reasons, always apply it.
4. Before weighing, check and make sure that
all hanging /load- receiving elements/
devices are in good condition.
5. Crane scale is only suitable for hanging
from a mechanical hook, e.g. a crane hook.
Check whether the used crane hook or the
lifting device is suitable for the suspended
load.
6. Make sure that there are no persons or
objects under the load which could be
injured or damaged.
7. The scale is not suitable for weighing a
person.
8. Load the scale only in vertical traction
direction.
9. Always avoid vibrations and horizontal
forces.
2
10.Prevent jolts, torsion and oscillation (e.g.
by sloping appending) of all kinds. Be sure
to prevent overloading the scales in excess
of the stated maximum load, minus any tare
weight that may possible exist. This could
damage the scale (risk of breakage). Do not
use the crane scale to transport loads (e.g.
traveling crane).
11.Never operate the scale in hazardous
locations. The series design is not
explosion-proof.
12.Structural alterations may not be made to
the scale. This can lead to incorrect
weighing results, faults concerning safety
regulations as well as to destruction of
the scale.
13.Avoid sudden and jerky acceleration or
deceleration of the load (risk of breakage).

3

2.2 SECURING THE SCALE

2.2.1 This unit must be hanged via a strong

media, e.g. a wire rope or a metal hook, to
a firm support that can withstands at least
5 times of scale capacity.

2.2.2 Make sure that the crane scale is hanged

vertically.

2.3 POWER THE SCALE

a. This scale is powered by the built-in
rechargeable battery and/or by an AC adapter
4
included. An external battery pack is
available as option.

b. Check and make sure that the voltage of the

of the main output.

c. Insert the output plug of AC adaptor firmly

into the DC input jack of scale. The DC input
jack is located underneath the back of the
scale.

d. Before first time use, charge the built-in

rechargeable battery for at least 8 hours
or until the charging indicator turns green.

e. For safety reasons, do not share the same

mains outlet with other apparatus.

2.4 OPTIMAL INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

SAFETY INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE

For safety purposes, please refer to the

information below:

1. Please use the diagram provided to perform

the safety inspection and maintenance. The
inspection should be documented using the
checklists provided.

2. Regular inspection and maintenance should

be performed by trained users who have
knowledge of working with crane scales.

3. If any inspection result does not conform

to the values in the checklist 1, please stop
the operation of the crane scale immediately
and send it for repairs.

27
4. Crane scales parts should only be replaced
by trained professionals authorized by UWE.

5. It is strictly prohibited to disassembling

and repairing of the crane scale by any
personnel other than trained professionals
authorized by UWE.

Procedure:

1. Crane scale should be inspected and

maintained every 3 months by trained users.

Each inspection and maintenance must be

documented.

2. Crane scale must be sent every year to trained

professionals (UWE authorized personnel)

for full inspection and maintenance,

including safety and accuracy tests

(sending the crane scale to accredited lab

(CNLA) for accuracy testing if necessary).

28
3. All inspection and maintenance results must

be documented on the checklist 1.

4. Inspection and maintenance carried out by

trained professionals must be documented on

yearly row in checklist 1.

5. All parts replaced by trained professionals

must be documented on checklist 2.

6. When performing regular inspection, please

take into the consideration the national

laws and regulations for worker safety.

Regular inspection and maintenance:

Every 3 months or every 10,000 weighings:

(Please use checklist 1 for record keeping)

1. Use Checklist 1 and the diagram provided

to check parts for wear, deformation and

fractures.
29
2. Inspect hanging ring, shackle, upper and

lower screws, hook, bolts, and latch for

abnormal conditions: for example,

mechanical damage, fractures, rust or

deformation.

3. Inspect upper screw / bolt and nut

(shackle) and lower screw / bolt and nut

(above the hook) and other removable parts

to make sure they are firmly tightened

and operational.

Results: If the dimension of the part

inspected does not conform to the values in

Checklist 1, or if there are any other

discrepancies, remove the scale from

operation immediately. The scale must be sent

to be repaired ONLY by trained professionals

authorized by UWE.

30
Every year or every 40,000 weighings:

The crane scale must be inspected by trained

professionals authorized by UWE for full

inspection, including safety inspections for

wear, fractures, deformation, tightness of

bolts and nuts, and test of accuracy of the

scale (sending scale to an accredited lab

(CNLA) for evaluation if necessary).

After 5 years or 200,000 weighings:

All load carrying parts needs to be replaced

by trained professionals. Use Checklist 2 to

document all each replaced part.

After 10 years or 400,000 weighings:

Replace the scale completely.

31
Remark: When performing regular inspection,

please use the Checklist 1 provided for

inspection categories and record keeping.

*The next diagram represents the most important

points for safety inspection. Please inspect

these parts carefully. Other parts not

represented in the diagram still need to be

inspected regularly.
