CEP Transportation CE 342 Section A
Question 1:
You are the pavement design engineer for KPHA and you have to design a conventional
flexible pavement for Swat Motorway (Expressway). Analyze your design keeping
below points in considerations.
It is estimated that the initial average daily traffic (ADT) will be *PIN/100 vehicles in both
directions of which 15% will be trucks. From a study of axle loading on swat motorway
phase 1, it has been determined that there will be 560.5 equivalent 18-Kip single axle
load per 1000 trucks. The subgrade material is silty clay (CL), seasonal resilient
modulus tests have been performed on the materials and the results shown in table 2
have been reported.

Question 2:
Analyze your pavement structure with the help of any pavement analysis
software and calculate critical stresses and strains. Show if your design is feasible
based on the stresses and strains value? Evaluate/discuss your structure using fatigue
and rutting criteria in pavement design.
