The document describes operating systems and their function of managing a computer's resources efficiently and conveniently for users. An operating system provides a user interface that hides hardware details and manages resources such as memory, processor time, and input/output devices fairly between concurrent processes. It also describes aviation operations, maintenance and management software and its role in managing the operations of aircraft workshops and charter companies.

OPERATING SOFTWARE

Definition of Operation Systems

It is difficult to specifically define what is: ``Operating Systems''. So most of

the literature defines it based on its functions. An operating system has two

basic functions that are not related:

 From a ``Top-Down'' point of view it provides a convenient user-machine

interface, hides hardware details and offers a more pleasant and convenient

environment.

In this case, the operating system is presented as an extended or virtual

machine, as an abstraction that is simpler and easier to use and program than

the hardware with which the user must work. So, for example, when a user

works with stored data, to access it they do not have to worry about the

primitive details of the disk (head movement, rotation movement, etc.),

instead they deal with high-level abstractions such as file and operations.

about files.

 From a ``Botton-Up'' point of view, it efficiently manages resources among

users who compete for them. When a computer has multiple users, it needs to

manage and protect memory, I/O devices and all other resources, so that each

user has fair attention and use of the resources they require. The operating

system acts as a resource manager and assigns them to specific processes and

users as necessary for them to perform their tasks. Since there may be many

(and possibly conflicting) requests for resources, the operating system must

decide which requirements will be served (by allocating resources) so that the

computing system operates fairly and efficiently.

In these two views we see two objectives of an operating system facing each

other: convenience versus efficiency .

Resources Managed by the Operation System

o Processor Time : It is the most important resource. Without access to

the CPU, programs cannot run. The simplest strategy would be to

allocate all the CPU to a program until it finishes, but input/output

operations do not require CPU time since there is a specific device

driver in charge of carrying out these input/output instructions. Thus, a

program could waste a lot of time just waiting for input/output

operations to finish. In view of this, it is more efficient to share CPU

time between different processes, thus exploiting concurrency.

o Main Memory : The CPU accesses data and instructions located in

physical memory. The function of the operating system with this

resource is to avoid the waste that occurs due to the different sizes of

user programs. Most memory management schemes are complex and

generate a lot of overhead.

o Peripheral Devices : Some peripheral devices can be used concurrently

by several processes (for example, the disk). Others are for exclusive

use (for example, the printer). The operation system is in charge of

managing and protecting them according to the characteristics of each

one.

o Software : The operating system must have functions available to users

that allow it to manage data and control the execution of its programs,

file management services, dispatchers, system libraries and utility

routines. It must also provide reentrant software to avoid have multiple

copies of the same program.

Aeronautical Operations Maintenance and Administration Software

An operations, maintenance and administration software for the aeronautical

industry (SOMA), is a software that allows aircraft workshops and charter

companies to manage their aeronautical operations: income, expenses, purchases,

logistics, inventory, engineering, planning, maintenance, quality control and quality

assurance.

Flowchart.

 Inventory Control: Disappearing Components and Over Inventory .

 Problems knowing in advance the expiration dates of components in the

warehouse .

 It takes a long time to integrate the reports for the aeronautical

authorities.

 It takes a lot of time and effort to know the detailed and total

maintenance costs.

 It takes a lot of time and effort to know detailed component costs.

 It is very difficult to plan maintenance services well in advance.

 Aircraft are kept on the ground for days waiting for the arrival of

components.

 With the growth of the company, it becomes difficult to monitor each of

the airworthiness directives (ADs) for each aircraft.

 It is difficult to keep track of the tracking of each component.

 Consolidation takes a long time to generate integrated company reports.

Advantages [ edit · edit code ]

 Never have an aircraft grounded (AOG) due to unplanned maintenance or

missing components.

 Tracking flight hours.

 Maintenance monitoring of all aircraft based on a pre-established

maintenance plan.

 Air safety , always comply with ADs from manufacturers and requirements

of government entities.

 The maintenance manager can partially or fully track each maintenance

and AD service.

 Have components inspected and serviceable on time for maintenance and

services.

 Component inventory reports in real time .

 Automatic ordering of components once each component reaches its

replenishment point in the warehouse.

 Monitoring and control of the purchasing process.

 Planning of material requirements.

 Reports of installed components and total usage time in real time.

 Track maintenance costs and costs per customer over a period.

 Maintain cost control of components inside and outside the aircraft.

 Component tracking reports in real time.

 Maintain control of component inventory.

 Customized reports to comply with regional aeronautical authorities.

 Be able to access reports from anywhere in the world.

Implantation

The implementation process is typically as follows:

 Business requirements gathering: Top executives and managers are

interviewed to understand their business needs (operations director,

maintenance director, maintenance manager, engineering manager, finance

director and/or quality control manager.

 Once these meetings have been held, we proceed to:

 Build a requirements gathering document.

 Review the requirements with the client.

 Adjust requirements according to client suggestions.

 A final version of the document is presented.

 Gathering of user requirements and customer data

 Software installation and configuration: Customer completes a

questionnaire to determine the number of users, attributes, fleets,

aircraft, warehouses, etc. With this information this information is

configured in the software .

 Data migration: automatic migration of customer information to the

software is carried out (component catalog, airworthiness directives,

manuals, job cards)

 Training: Once the installation has been completed, users are trained

remotely or in person.

 Support: Usually, the client has access to support electronically, by

telephone and in person.

Operation Software

AeroDreams has a family of operating software (DreamNav, TlmPic and

DreamViewer) for:

 Mission simulation and planning.

 Navigation and trajectory mapping.

 Online control of all flight and cargo sensor telemetry pays.

At the remote control station it is recreated in a graphical environment:

 The virtual cockpit of the aircraft with the Head Up Display (HUD).

 A panel of alarms, flight sensors and paid cargo.

 Information on cartography, digital elevation models and GIS.

DreamNav

Software to plan and monitor the flight of an aircraft and pay load sensors in real

time. This tool makes it possible to generate error-free operations in the three

stages of the mission: (a) planning; (b) execution; and (c) reproduction.

Developed based on an interactive geo-referenced graphical interface, the

software manages 2D vectorized and rasterized cartography, and allows the

generation of 3D digital terrain models, forming a geographic information system

(GIS) in real time. This information is complemented with visual aids and zone,

collision and terrain alarms for safe execution of the mission.

This software also has special capabilities and functions such as area search

patterns, orbit over targets (loiter), launch of payloads (sensors, signals, marks),

determination of trajectory and position of targets.

Using this software is very simple and intuitive. Using the mouse and clicking on

the cartography on the screen, the flight plan (waypoints) is generated, and

navigation data such as trajectories, times, consumption, etc. are obtained; which

are automatically processed to determine the feasibility of successfully

executing the planned mission. During the flight, the same exercise can be

performed in real time, modifying the flight plan, and obtaining the recalculated
parameters of the new navigation, which will show the possibilities and limits of

making the changes proposed in the original mission.

TlmPic

Telemetry software and management of flight parameters and payload sensors at

every moment of time. Organized in a graphical environment, all flight parameters

are displayed simulating a real airplane cockpit, including:

 Flight and engine instruments

 Aircraft fuel and battery consumption and charging.

 Critical alarms and master alarms panel.

 Atmospheric data: temperature, wind speed and direction and others.

 Control of charging sensors and navigation lights

TlmViewer

Software that displays all flight sensors and payloads in the form of graphs over

time or trends. This information is in turn recorded as a Black Box or Data

Logger of an airplane.
