TECHNICAL SERVICES
Technical services librarians are someone who works behind the scene, obtaining and
classifying resources for the library to ensure the operational of the library going smoothly.
They are required to maintain activities of a library’s collection such as collection
development, cataloging and processing whether physical processing or preservation.
Moreover, they are handling the physical and electronic materials in facility’s collection, be a
database maintenance to ensure the library catalog is up-to-date and research new
materials or train library staff. Technical services librarians mostly working not directly with
users because it is information services field of work.
INFORMATION SERVICES
Information services can range from the provision of research and analysis to the creation of
knowledge bases and decision support systems. They often involve the collection,
processing and analysis of data to provide insights and recommendations to customers and
organizations. Information services can also include data warehousing, data mining and
business intelligence, which involve the storage and analysis of large amounts of data to
glean insights and make data-driven decisions. Another important aspect of information
services is the creation and management of knowledge bases, which involve building and
maintaining libraries of information and expertise to support decision-making processes.
