Document Sizes

InDesign provides a range of standard and non-standard document sizes to accommodate various publishing requirements.
Standard sizes, such as Letter (8.5" x 11"), A4 (210mm x 297mm), and Ledger (11" x 17"), are commonly used for business
documents, reports, and brochures. Non-standard sizes, such as magazine sizes (8.27" x 10.83" for standard US magazines) or
custom sizes for specialized publications, can be created to suit specific requirements.

Presets
Presets are pre-configured document settings that combine specific page sizes, orientations, margins, bleed, and column setups.
InDesign offers a variety of presets for common document types, such as brochures, flyers, newsletters, and books. These presets
save time and effort by eliminating the need to manually set up these parameters.

Uses in Publishing Docs

The appropriate choice of document size and preset depends on the specific publishing project. Here are some examples of how
these elements are used in different types of documents:
• Brochures and Flyers: Presets for brochures and flyers typically include multiple pages with predefined column layouts, margins, and
bleed settings, ensuring consistency across the document.
• Newsletters: Newsletter presets often feature a single-column layout with predefined margins and page sizes suitable for easy
reading and printing.
• Books: Book presets come with multiple pages, often in a standard book size like Octavo (6" x 9"), and may include additional
settings for headers, footers, and page numbering.
• Reports and Presentations: Presets for reports and presentations may include specific page sizes and orientations, such as Letter for
landscape presentations or A4 for vertical reports.
