Home Activity.

The purpose of guided reading activities is to encourage and facilitate meaningful connections

between children and the texts they read(Kostikova et al.). They will practice a variety of

abilities, such as reading comprehension, authorial intent, authorial features usage, authorial

prediction, empathy, and use of structure.

Some of the activities may include:

i) Character letter writing. Write a letter from one character to another in that person's

voice. It is not required that they be two people from the same novel.

ii) Try out some pre-reading activities. There are several activities that do not even

appear to be reading, yet they prepare a youngster to read. These pre-reading skills

might emerge naturally via a child's own observation and imitation or they can be

fostered by an adult. A youngster could be prepared to learn to read if they exhibit

certain traits and skills. If not, incorporate these kinds of activities into your daily

schedule to aid in pointing them in the proper direction.

iii) Try out word cards. Cut out basic cards and write words with three sounds on each

one. Ask them to speak the word's initial sound, then the second, and finally the third.

This straightforward exercise develops crucial phonics and decoding abilities with
minimum preparation time. Focus more on the sound each letter makes than letter

names if your youngster is just beginning to learn the alphabet.

iv) Play word games at home or in the car. Playing activities that teach your youngster to

listen, recognize, and modify the sounds in words should be emphasized.

v) Read together with the parent on a regular basis. Many people are unaware of how

many skills may be taught to a kid by just reading to them. In addition to teaching

children how to decode words, you are also helping them develop important

comprehension skills, expand their vocabulary, and get a taste of what a skilled reader

sounds like. The greatest method to prepare your child for reading success is to read

to them frequently since it fosters a love of reading in them.
