Physical map: A physical map, as related to genomics, is a graphical representation of physical

locations of landmarks or markers (such as genes, variants and other DNA sequences of
interest) within a chromosome or genome. A complete genome sequence is one type of
physical map. Physical maps are used to identify genes or other sequences believed to play a
role in health conditions or diseases. They are also valuable in providing an organizational
framework for generating complete sequences of genomes.

Topographic Map: Topographic maps have contour lines that show how the
elevation of the landscape changes. Contour lines are imaginary lines on
Earth's surface that connect points that are the same height above sea level.
On this map, the contour lines look like concentric circles. The outside line is
at sea level, which means it has an elevation of zero meters above sea level.
The next contour line has an elevation of 10 meters above sea level. The line
above that has an elevation of 20 meters above sea level. Contour lines
connect points that share the same elevation: Where they are close together
(they never intersect), elevation is changing rapidly in short distance and the
terrain is steep. Where contour lines are wide apart, elevation is changing
slowly, indicating a gentle slope. In this example, the contour lines are
evenly spaced apart. This indicates that the slope of the hill is an even and
steady curve of elevation from top to bottom.

Political Map: A political map is a type of map that represents political

divisions, or human-created boundaries, of the world, continents and
major geographic regions. Political features are characteristics such as
country borders, roads, population centers and landform boundaries.
Political maps can vary in size and content. Some political maps cover entire
continents, while others may show a specific town or municipality. Each
political map can also focus on different types of political features. A single
map might just focus on public transportation. Political maps can be very
useful to help understand the human impacts of the planet.

Weather Map: A weather map is a graphical representation that displays weather

conditions across a specific geographical area. The depicted weather events can pertain
to the past, present, or future forecasts. From a meteorological perspective, a weather
map illustrates the current state of the atmosphere over a larger region. It provides
information about various weather parameters, such as temperature, wind speed, wind
direction, or precipitation. Weather observations or anticipated changes in atmospheric
conditions are represented symbolically or through colored contours.

Economic Map: Economic maps are a tool used to represent economic data in a geographic
context. These maps provide a visual representation of the economic activity, patterns, and
distribution across regions, countries, or the world. Economic maps are used by governments,
businesses, researchers, and policymakers to analyze economic trends, plan economic
development strategies, and make informed decisions.

Population map: A population map is a thematic map that shows the distribution of
people in a specific area. It can also track the number of people in different groups within
that area. Population maps can be useful for economic and geographical evaluations of a
territory, as well as for national economic planning..

World Map: World map, graphical representation, using projection, that depicts Earth’s
exterior on a flat surface. World maps usually show political features, such as country borders,
and physical features. World maps can also be used to present data on average temperature, soil
type, rainfall distribution, and much else.
