1. Introduction
Since USB flash drive has become the storage media for information, one of the most discussed
issues regarding USB flash drive is the safety of data. To prevent unauthorized users from tampering
the data, Apacer has developed a data protection utility called USB Write Protect exclusively for USB
flash drive. This user manual will guide you through the steps of enabling/disabling write protection on
Apacer industrial USB flash drive using this application tool.

1.1 System Support and Compatibility


 OS Support: Windows XP, 7, 8 and 10. Administrator privileges are required to run USB Write
Protect.
 Compatibility: USB Write Protect can only work on Apacer industrial USB flash drive.

2. Before You Start


To enable/disable write protection on Apacer industrial USB flash drive, identifying the storage device
by letter, such as E, F, G displayed onscreen when it is plugged to and detected by your computer is
necessary. Therefore, before launching USB Write Protect to manage write protection settings, it is
suggest that Apacer USB flash drive is connected to your computer. Alternatively, the USB drive can
be plugged to your computer in the middle of launching USB Write Protect. For more detailed
instructions, see “3.2 Enable Write Protection”.

3. Get Started with USB Write Protect
Being a data protection tool, USB Write Protect allows you to easily safeguard the data stored on your
Apacer industrial USB flash drive and effectively stop any tampering or other malicious use of your
device.

This chapter guides you through the process of launching USB Write Protect and enabling/disabling
write protection on your USB flash drive via USB Write Protect.

3.1 Launch USB Write Protect


Right-click the icon of Write Protect (CONFIDENTIAL) v1.3.exe and click Run as adminstrator to
launch USB Write Protect. Then you may follow the steps in the following sections to manage write
protection on your Apacer industrial USB flash drive.

3.2 Enable Write Protection
This section explains how to enable write protection on your Apacer industrial USB flash drive.

1. Once USB Write Protect is launched, enter the letter indicated onscreen of your Apacer flash
drive in the Drive field in the window that appears. The drive letter D is illustrated here for
reference only.

2. Click Write Protect and a pop-up message will appear. Follow the on-screen instruction to re-
plug the USB flash drive whose drive letter is indicated as D to activate the write protection
function.

3. When write protection is enabled on the USB drive, no data can be written to the device.

3.3 Disable Write Protection
This section explains how to disable write protection on your Apacer industrial USB flash drive.

1. To unprotect the USB flash drive, enter the letter indicated onscreen of your Apacer flash drive
from which you wish to remove write protection in the Drive field. The drive letter D is illustrated
here for reference only.

2. Click Un-Write Protect and a pop-up message will appear. Follow the on-screen instruction to re-
plug the USB flash drive whose drive letter is indicated as D. Write protection is then removed
from the device.
