WebSphere Application Server z/OS


Version 8.5 Workshop (WBSR85)
This workshop, like all Wildfire workshops, is offered no-fee to qualified customers and business partners

Topics:

Introduction and Overview
We set a baseline of understanding of what WebSphere Application
Server is and how it operates on z/OS.

Administrative Model
We demonstrate the commonality of administration between WAS on
z/OS and WAS on other platforms; we discuss the WSADMIN scripting
interface; and we introduce the new High Performance Extensible
Logging (HPEL) facility.

Server Models
In this unit we discuss the two primary server models that are part of
WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V8.5 -- the "multi-JVM" model
with the Controller and Servant structure, and the new "Liberty Profile"
Plus extensive server model.

Accessing z/OS Data
exercises WAS on z/OS has the advantage of being able to access data using
cross-memory connectors. In this unit we discuss accessing DB2
throughout the using JDBC, CICS using JCA, and MQ using JMS. In addition we
review the new high availability routing function in V8.

Installation Manager
A unit on the use and best practices of the new Installation Manager
(IM) element of WAS z/OS V8 administration.

Optimized Local Adapters
WebSphere Optimized Local Adapters (WOLA) is a very efficient
cross-memory exchange mechanism allowing for high rates of
throughput and very low latency. In this unit we'll discuss how it works
with CICS and batch programs.
