HOUSE PARENT JOB DESCRIPTION Revised
1.0 Preamble
For the effective running of the boarding system of Our Lady of Grace Senior High School, it is
imperative that house parents are appointed to oversee the wholistic development of students.
2.0 Appointment
The headmaster in consultation with the school management shall appoint house parent to effectively
run the boarding house system.
The tenure of office for the house parent runs for a period of two years, renewable based on accumulated
satisfactory termly assessment.
However, the appointing authority reserves the right to truncate the appointment of the houseparent as
and when concerns arise.
The house parent is to be conscious and concerned as a parent would be for the welfare, well-being,
safety, and upright formation of the child and shall serve as a mentor and role model for students.
4.1 Administrative
1. a. Receive and keep on record the list of students allocated to the house by the Administration.
b. Keep on record personal information of each student and their developmental characteristics.
c. Build dossier on each student and avail it when needed.
d. Keep proper records of students’ movement.
2. Allocate students to cubicles and rooms.
3. Put in place acceptable mechanism for electing house prefects and other leaders of the house and
recommend them for approval by the Senior House Parents / Assistant Head.
4. Keep and be accountable for house property, equipment, and imprest.
5. Organize students to participate in inter-house competitions of all kinds, and accompany students
to functions, programmes, and activities organized on house basis.
6. Conduct routine/ random roll calls to be sure of students are available in their houses of residence
as expected.
7. Diligently complete the houseparents’ section of terminal reports to parents according to schedule.

13. Monitor and maintain a positive and conducive living environment within the house.
14. Enforce the best of safety practices in the house to advert damages and injuries.
15. Ensure students observe best practices like sleeping in mosquito nets, ensure timely removal of
dried clothing from the lines, embossing personal items and desisting from: drying wet towels in
the rooms, eating in the dormitories, hanging and leaving clothing indiscriminately around, keeping
buckets of water in the rooms, leaving dirty bowls, plates, and cups around.
16. Address the health needs of the students by;
a. promptly getting sick students to the school clinic for treatment and/or referral.
b. liaising with the health officers at the school clinic to ensure the welfare of sick student on
admission.
c. acting as locum parents when a student is receiving treatment outside the school clinic until
parents take over.
17. In collaboration with the guidance and counselling department, support students’ psychological,
emotional, and social needs.
18. Guide house members to make maximum use of block facilities like the television room, prayer
rooms, ICT lab and study rooms.
19. See to it that the house and students are suitably prepared to participate in general inspections by
official inspectors.
20. Perform any other duties as the school may from time to time assign to you.
