New Certifications
Before January 1, 2024 manufacturers have
a choice to certify new HVAC appliances
using non-flammable refrigerants to either
UL 1995 or UL 60335-2-40. Though UL
1995 is an option, to align with the latest
code requirements and for easier updates to
the certification, Intertek recommends that
new certifications be performed to the latest
edition of UL 60335-2-40. Manufacturers
certifying appliances or equipment utilizing
a flammable refrigerant can only be certified
to UL 60335-2-40. UL 1995 will not be an
option for certification of any refrigerant
systems that may be charged with an A2L,
A2, or A3 classified refrigerant. After January
1, 2024 manufacturers can only certify new
appliances or equipment to UL/CSA 60335- through August 17, 2018. Certifications
2-40. will remain to the 4th Ed., but will have
Canada, Room Air Conditioners, and applicable testing done to the 5th Edition
Dehumidifiers for these components.
