Requirements
Connect the phone to a Wi-Fi
network. Check whether the Wi-Fi

Perform steps 1 to 6.
If any fault occurs at a step, terminate the test. And the
Summary phone is faulty.
If no fault is found until the test is completed, NFF is
determined.
NOTE:
For the test items that are not included in steps 1 to 6, refer to the user manual of the
phone.
2.2 Check IMEI
Input *#06# in the dialer to check if the IMEI shown on the screen is the same as that on
the label, package and certificate.
2.3 Check Software Version
From the home screen, touch Settings > System > About phone > Build number to
check the software version.

3. Erase FRP Information
If the Factory Reset Protection (FRP) function is enabled on the Blade A5 2020, use the
tool FRP Tool.exe to erase the FRP information.
NOTE:
The tool is only used for erasing the FRP information of the phone with Android 5.1 and
later.
3.1 Install Driver
1. Unzip the package MFG_DRV_PKG_SPRDV1.0.0B01.zip.
2. Run the setup program ZTE_Manufacture_USB_Driver(for SPRD).exe.
3. Follow the prompts and complete the installation.
3.2 FRP Erasing Procedure
1. Unzip the package PSTW_FRP_Z3051TAUSTELV1.0.0B01.zip.
2. Run the program FRP Tool.exe in the tool folder.

3. Click the Load packet button, and select the download file (.pac file).
NOTE:
The download file (.pac file) is zipped in the software download package (DL), which
can be downloaded from ZTE support website.
4. Click the Start button.

5. Power off the phone and press and hold the Volume down key of the phone, and then
connect the phone to the computer via the USB cable. Then the FRP tool
automatically starts to erase the FRP information. Wait until the erasing is completed.
NOTE:
Ensure the phone has at least 5% battery capacity left before you connect the phone
to the computer.
6. Click the Stop button.

4. Software Download
4.1 Preparations and Cautions
Prepare an external storage card (with at least 2 GB free space).
Download the update package (update.zip) according to the phone model from the
website https://www.ztedevices.com/en/support. Then copy the file to the root
directory of the storage card.
NOTES:
If the file name of the downloaded package is not update.zip, unzip the package to
obtain the file.
Verify that the update.zip file matches the model of the phone. Do not modify the
file name.
Remove the nano-SIM card before the update.
Back up the data and apps in the phone by using the built-in backup app in the phone
or other third-party apps.
NOTES:
Do not remove the storage card during the backup process.
To avoid data loss, it is not recommended to cancel the backup process.
Ensure the battery power is sufficient (at least 40%). Charge the phone if necessary.
To avoid data loss or update failure, it is not recommended to update the phone while it
is being charged.
Do not perform other operations on the phone during the update process to avoid
update failure.
A normal update should be completed in 10 minutes. If the phone does not reboot or
show any response after 10 minutes, perform the update again. If the phone cannot be
powered on, perform the mandatory update. If still failed, contact an after-sales service
agent for support.

4.2 Normal Update
1. Check and confirm the downloaded update package in the root directory of the storage
card can be normally read. Open the app list and touch File Manager > LOCAL, and
then select SD card to view the files.
2. Open the app list and touch Settings > System > Advanced > System Updates.

3. Touch INSTALL.
The phone will reboot and install the update. Wait until the installation is completed.
4.3 Mandatory Update
1. Copy the downloaded update package update.zip to the root directory of the storage
card. Then power off the phone.
2. Enter recovery mode.
a. Press and hold the Power key for 1 second, and then press and hold the Volume
down key.
b. Release the two keys as soon as “ZTE” appears on the screen. The phone will
enter Android recovery.
3. Press the Volume down key to select Apply update from SD card, and then press
the Power key to confirm it.
4. Press the Volume down key to select the update.zip file, and then press the Power
key to confirm it.
The phone will install the update and wait (about 5 minutes) until it is completed.

5. On the Install from SD card complete screen, select Reboot system now and press
the Power key to reboot the phone for normal use.
4.4 (Optional) Restore User Data
If the user data has been backed up in advance, please restore the data after the update.
1. Run the same backup and restore app you used for backing up the data.
2. Restore the user data by following the guides.
NOTES:
Do not remove the storage card during the restore process.
To avoid data loss, it is not recommended to cancel the restore process.

5.4 Disassembly Steps
The sample phone is for reference only. It might not be completely identical with yours.
1. Remove the nano-SIM/microSDXC card tray.
2. Starting from the card tray slot, use the housing disassembly tool to separate the
battery cover.

3. Remove the 7 screws of the down bracket assembly.
4. Remove the 10 screws of the upper bracket assembly.
5. Separate the upper bracket assembly from the phone.

6. Carefully separate the receiver FPC from the upper bracket assembly.

7. Disconnect the battery connector.
8. Separate the down bracket assembly from the phone.

9. Remove the speaker from the down bracket assembly.

10. Disconnect the sub-board FPC connectors, the display FPC connector, the front
camera FPC connector, and the RF cable connectors.

11. Remove the front camera.
12. Pry the mainboard from the upper side off the phone.

13. Separate the connectors of the back cameras.

14. Remove the side key FPC.
NOTE:
The side key FPC is stuck to the front cover assembly with adhesive tape. Remove
with care. Do not pull with force.

15. Remove the receiver from the front cover assembly.
16. Separate the vibrator from the front cover assembly.
NOTE:
Do not break the wires that connect the vibrator to the sub-board.

17. Lift up the sub-board from the micro-USB connector and remove the sub-board from
the front cover assembly.
NOTE:
Do not use force and break or deform the sub-board.

18. Carefully remove the speaker FPC. Do not tear and cause damage to it.
19. Heat the phone by putting it onto a heating table (with the screen facing down) for 3~5
minutes at 80 °C.

20. Use a slim plastic card to remove the battery.

Test the failures described by the customer, and confirm that the failures do not recur.
8.2 Test Final Functions
Input the test command *987*0# in the dialer to process the automatic function test and
confirm all the functions are normal.
8.3 Check Final Software Version
From the home screen, touch Settings > System > About phone > Build number to
check and confirm the software is the latest (updated) version.
