My name is christelle FAHD, I am 19 years old, and I am a university student in France and Germany. I am
Rayan.D
excited to chair this Model United Nations (MUN) session, especially as it is my first time doing so online. I
have previously chaired several MUNs, including a memorable one with Rayan. I am passionate about tennis
and motorsport, and I am a big fan of Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton. Living on the French Riviera, I also enjoy
spending time at the beach. These interests have taught me valuable skills like perseverance, teamwork, and
strategic thinking, which I believe are essential for a successful MUN experience.

Thank you, and I look forward to working with all of you to make this MUN session a success.

II. INTRODUCTION OF THE LEGAL COMMITTEE
The United Nations General Assembly Sixth Committee (also called the Legal Committee or
C6) is one of the six main committees of the UN General Assembly. This committee focuses on
legal issues and international law. It meets every year in New York for six weeks to discuss
and work on various legal matters.

The Sixth Committee handles legal questions and promotes the development of international
law. All United Nations member states can participate in the Sixth Committee, and countries
with observer status can also join the discussions. The committee meets annually for six weeks,
starting after the General Assembly's general debate and finishing by mid-November. Topics
often include international justice, crime prevention, combating terrorism, and the
promotion of international law. The committee does not start with a general debate. Instead, it
discusses each agenda item one by one. After discussions and negotiations, proposals are sent
to the General Assembly for final approval.

An important part of the Sixth Committee's work is the "International Law Week" at the end of
October. During this week, top legal advisers from member states meet to discuss reports from
the International Law Commission, International Court of Justice, and International
Criminal Court. Various UN bodies report to the Sixth Committee, including the International
Law Commission and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law.

For its 76th session, the Sixth Committee is addressing issues such as the criminal
accountability of UN officials, reports on international trade law, the protection of people
in disasters, the strengthening of international treaties, measures to eliminate terrorism,
and administrative justice at the UN.

The committee has helped negotiate important treaties like the 1961 Vienna Convention on
Diplomatic Relations, the 1998 Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, and the
2023 High Seas Treaty. The Sixth Committee plays a crucial role in developing and promoting
international law and justice, ensuring that legal matters are thoroughly discussed and
addressed within the United Nations framework.

Subject - Discussing the Promulgation of Disinformation and Its

Influence on the Political and Electoral Process

The Legal Committee will discuss the issue of disinformation and

how it affects political and electoral processes. Disinformation refers
to false or misleading information spread deliberately to deceive
people. This can have serious consequences, such as undermining
democracy, influencing election results, and damaging public trust
in governments and institutions.

The committee will explore ways to combat disinformation,

including legal measures, international cooperation, and public
education. The goal is to ensure fair and transparent elections and
to protect the integrity of the political process worldwide.
