1. INTRODUCTION

1.1. BACKGROUND

2. SCOPE
The scope of this document is to perform the Design calculations for steel shed on the
transformer. All relevant applicable loads are applied on the structure and checked for steel
member stress, displacement, forces, and moments. The validated data is compiled in this
report.

3. DESIGN BRIEF
The pipe support is modelled in STAAD Pro as line elements and all the applicable loads
are applied in STAAD. The design parameters are assigned as per AISC 360, and design
is performed using STAAD. The connections are designed using RISA connection and
anchor bolts are designed using HILTI Profis Anchor.

Materials
Structural Steel for all structure shall be mild steel and comply with the requirements of
BS EN 10025, Grade S275 JR and sections to be BS 4 as per specifications w-c-ss-009
section 5.1.

Moment capacity
The moment capacity of the section is based on the sectional properties of the member
and the slenderness of the section and is calculated as per the provisions of AISC.

Maximum slenderness (AISC 360 Specification for Structural Steel Buildings)

The value of slenderness shall not exceed the following:

For members carrying tensile loads - 300 (Sec D1 AISC 360)

For members carrying compressive loads - 200 (Sec E2 AISC 360)

Deflections
The Maximum Permissible Deflections shall be as specified in Appendix C of ASCE7-05,
as per BS or as given by Crane Manufacturer, whichever is critical.

Vertical deflection of beams due to imposed load (Sec CC 1.1 ASCE 7)

Floor Beams - Span / 360
Roof Beams - Span / 240
Cantilevers - Length / 150

16. DESIGN OF PEDESTAL AND FOOTING
The column is resting directly on RCC pavement and since the pavement slab is very large, the
calculation below shows the minimum span of Pavement which is sufficient to resist the load from
the column.

17. EMBEDMENT LENGTH OF PEDESTAL REINF IN PAVEMENT SLAB

Reaction of steel support on RCC Pedestal

Based on the above table,

Max Tension in the pedestal = 15 kN
Shear in both direction = 10 kN
Major axis bending moment = 15 kN-m + 10 kN x 0.5 m (Moment due to shear from steel column)
= 20 kN-m
Minor axis bending moment = 10 kN x 0.5 m (Moment due to shear from steel column)
= 5 kN-m = ~20 kN-m
