District Demo Teaching
District Demo Teaching
1. Short Review
Polygon are around us. We can see them in floor, ceiling and wall designs.
The teacher will play a motivational video with some polygons are highlighted. The
students will ask to name and draw at least two (2) shapes based on the video
presented. Correct answers earn 1 point
2. Feedback (optional)
B. ESTABLISHING 1. Lesson Purpose
LESSON Use the exact figures used in the short review. Let the students define
PURPOSE polygon, non-polygon, regular polygon and irregular polygon given illustrations.
(Aims) Engage students in activity that will help them identify if the given figure is polygon or
non-polygon. Let the students differentiate regular and irregular polygons based on
the given activity.
The purpose of this lesson is to help students understand the definition
polygon, non-polygon, regular polygon and irregular polygon and explore their
properties, learn how to identify polygon and non-polygon, differentiate regular and
irregular, additionally, students will practice drawing of regular and irregular polygons
with 5, 6, 8, or 10 sides, based on measurements of sides and angles, using a ruler and
protractor.
2. Unlocking Content Vocabulary
Let the students come up with the definition of non-polygons based on the given
figures.
Possible answer:
This is not two-dimensional, these 2 sides belong to the same line, the
sides are not line segments and have curved sides
a. What is a non-polygon?
A non-polygon are figures that are open or have curved sides.
For formative evaluation, ask the learners to give or to draw a polygon and non-
polygon that is not the same with the examples found in your discussion.
3. Lesson Activity
Tell whether the given figure is a polygon or not. if it is not a polygon, give the reason.
DAY 2
Daily Routine
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Attendance
d. Recall of Classroom Rules
SUB-TOPIC 2: Name, describe, and compare regular and irregular polygons with 5, 6,
8 or 10 sides based on measurements of sides and angles
Provide students with a set of figures. Have them classify each as a polygon or not,
and further classify polygons as regular or irregular.
Hands-On Drawing Activity:
Materials: Ruler and protractor.
Task: Students draw regular and irregular polygons with 5, 6, 8, and 10 sides.
Measure and record side lengths and angles.
Group Work: Have students work in groups to compare their polygons, discussing
the differences between their regular and irregular shapes.
Time: 10 minutes
Activity: Present a slideshow with definitions and visual examples of polygons,
non-polygons, regular polygons, and irregular polygons.
Identification Activity:
Time: 10 minutes
Activity: Provide students with a worksheet containing various shapes.
Students will classify each shape as a polygon or not, and if it is a polygon, as
regular or irregular.
Materials: Worksheets, pencils.
Time: 15 minutes
Activity: Students will use rulers and protractors to draw:
o Regular pentagon (5 sides)
o Regular hexagon (6 sides)
o Regular octagon (8 sides)
o Regular decagon (10 sides)
Irregular Polygons: Draw an irregular pentagon, hexagon, octagon, and
decagon with different side lengths and angles.
Materials: Rulers, protractors, paper.
Group Work:
Time: 10 minutes
Activity: Students will work in small groups to compare their drawings. Each
group will discuss and list the differences they observe between the regular
and irregular polygons they drew.
Materials: Student drawings, discussion prompts.
Visual Summary:
Time: 5 minutes
Activity: Create a visual chart/poster as a class that lists the properties of each
type of polygon.
Quiz:
Time: 10 minutes
Activity: Administer a short quiz with multiple-choice and short-answer
questions covering the definitions and characteristics of polygons.
Materials: Quiz papers, pencils.
Practical Test:
Time: 10 minutes
Activity: Ask students to draw a specific regular or irregular polygon, ensuring
they measure and label all sides and angles correctly.
Materials: Paper, rulers, protractors.
Reflection Questions:
Time: 5 minutes
Activity: Have students write brief responses to reflection questions about
their learning experience.
Questions:
o “What was the most interesting thing you learned today?”
o “What did you find challenging?”
Time: 10 minutes
Materials: Quiz papers, pencils
Multiple-Choice Questions:
Short-Answer Questions:
Answer Key
Multiple-Choice Questions:
1. b) Triangle
2. c) All sides and angles are equal.
3. a) Square
Short-Answer Questions:
This PISA-style quiz encourages students to think critically about the properties
of polygons and apply their knowledge in practical contexts.
