Introduction

The goal of this lab is to gain a better understanding of MS PowerPoint that will help you to
create dynamic slide presentations that include animation, narration, images, videos and more.
These features are meant to accompany the oral delivery of the topic.

In this lab you will be learning the use of MS PowerPoint in which you will learn:

 How to create MS PowerPoint slides and save them on your computer?

 How to format the PowerPoint slides?

 How to insert tables, figures and slide numbers?

 How to insert Background, Animations, Transitions?

Instructions

 This is an individual lab. You will perform the tasks individually and submit the
required tasks in the given time.
 Plagiarism or any hint thereof will be dealt with strictly. Any incident where plagiarism
is caught, both (or all) students involved will be given zero marks, regardless of who
copied whom. Multiple such incidents will result in disciplinary action being taken.

MS PowerPoint
PowerPoint is computer software created by Microsoft that helps to create dynamic slide
presentations that include animation, narration, images, videos and more

MS PowerPoint interface
When you open PowerPoint for the first time, the Start Screen will appear as shown in
Figure1. From here, you'll be able to create a new slides presentation, choose a template, and
access your recently edited or accessed presentations. From the Start Screen, locate and
select Blank presentation to access the PowerPoint interface.

File Tab
The File tab provides you with the Backstage that provides information related to your
presentation. The Backstage also contains standard commands such as Save, Save As, New,
Print, etc as shown in Figure 2.

Templates
Microsoft PowerPoint has a variety of pre-designed templates within specific categories as
shown in Figure 3. You can access them by the following method:

 Select the File tab, and then click on the New option.
 The Available Templates window will appear.

Format a Document
Formats can be applied to any text within your presentation. The formatting styles are the most
common way to change the appearance of text in a document.

Select text, and then click on your desired format from the Home ribbon.
Format Option Examples:

 Click on the Bold button to make the text bold.


 Click on the Italic button to italicize text.
 Click on the Underline button to add an underline to text.
 Click on the Bullets button to add a bulleted list to text.
 Click on the Numbering button to add a numbered list to the text.
 Click on Align Left, Align Center, Align Right buttons to align the text left, center,
right respectively.
 To distribute the text evenly between the margins you can use the Justify button.

 You can also choose the line and paragraphs spacing, change the font color, the color
behind the text, highlight the text or apply borders from different buttons on the Home
Ribbon.

Change the size of your slides


All slides in a presentation are the same size.
To change the slide size:

 Select the Design tab of the toolbar ribbon.


 Select Slide Size icon.
 Select Standard (4:3 aspect ratio) or Widescreen (16:9) or Custom Slide Size.
For more about the predefined sizes or your custom sizing, click the heading below to expand
it and see the details.

Tables
To insert a table in a PowerPoint presentation, follow the following steps.
 Select the slide that you want to add a table to.
 Click the Insert tab.
 Click the Table button.
 Drag through the grid to set the desired number of rows and columns OR select the
insert table option and provide the numbers of rows and columns.
You don't need to be precise; you can always add or remove rows or columns later.
 To add text to the table cells, click a cell, and then enter your text. After you enter
your text, click outside the table.

Figures
 Select the slide that you want to add a figure to.
 Click the Insert tab; in the Images group, click the “Pictures” button.
 The Insert Picture dialog box appears.
 Locate the image file on your PC's storage system.
 Click to select the image.
 Click the Insert button.
 The image is placed in your slide.

Themes
A theme is a predefined combination of colors, fonts, and effects that can be applied to your
presentation. PowerPoint includes built-in themes that allow you to easily create professional-
looking presentations without spending a lot of time formatting.
Change the current theme
You change a theme by making a selection from the gallery on the Design tab in PowerPoint.
On the Design tab, in the Themes group, click the More button to open the entire gallery of
themes:
To apply a theme, click the theme that you want.

Change Slide Backgrounds


Every theme includes a background. The background can be plain white, a solid or gradient
color fill, a texture or pattern fill, or a picture. When you change to a different theme, the
background is replaced.
Background colors are defined by theme colors. Therefore, if you change the theme color
scheme, PowerPoint updates the background to reflect the new theme colors.
If you like a particular theme with its color scheme and fonts, but you want a different
background, you can quickly apply a different background to all slides or a selection of one or
more slides.
To change the background of all slides:
 On the Design tab, in Customize group, click Format Background.
 Select among the Solid, Gradient, Picture or Texture, or Pattern fill options to create
the background style that you want.
 Select Apply to All.

Slide Number
In PowerPoint, you can add or remove automatic slide numbers, hide numbering. You can also
add the date and time to the slides.
To insert slide number:
 On the Insert tab, select Slide Number.
 On the Slide tab, check the Slide number box. If you don't want a number to appear on
the title slide, also check the Don’t show on the title slide box.
 Select Apply to All.

Animations
Animations control how objects move onto, off of, and around your slides
Add animations and effects:
 Select the object or text you want to animate.
 Select Animations and choose an animation.
 Select Effect Options and choose an effect.

Transitions
Transitions control how your presentation moves from one slide to the next.
Add transitions and effects
 Select the slide you want to add a transition to.
 Select the Transitions tab and choose a transition.
 Select a transition to see a preview.
 Select Effect Options to choose the direction and nature of the transition.
Note: Not every transition has Effect Options.
 Select Preview to see what the transition looks like.
 To remove a transition, select Transitions > None.

Task-1
A slide in PDF format is uploaded on QOBE named, “Time Management for Students”. Make
your own slide as it is and upload on QOBE.

Task 2 – Presentation
Make a presentation on topic of your own choice. Presentation should include title slide, main
points with bullets, slide number, and a built-in theme. Also, insert a table and an image with
labels. Include references on the last slide. PPT should include no more than 10 slides.
Note: Don’t forget to include references in the last slide.

Submission
Tasks 1 should be completed in the given time and submitted on QOBE during Lab according to
the given instructions.
Task 2 should be submitted on QOBE on 9th Nov,2023
