Is the attire of an individual the reason why rape happens?

English 10 – Persuasive Text

Lanah Zain Fabular

Rape is a sexual assault that takes place when someone violates someone else without
that person's consent. Rape is a very alarming situation. Regardless of their gender, age, or
social standing, anyone can face this type of sexual assault.

The serious issue of rape affects millions of individuals all around the world. The victim might
experience physical, emotional, and psychological harm, which could cause long-term trauma
and have a bad effect on their physical and mental health.

Sexual assault and rape victims have been dealing with a culture where rape is common and
where sexual violence is acceptable and condoned in the media and popular culture. The fear of
being judged or not being believed is one reason why abuse victims and survivors may be
reluctant to discuss their experiences. Rape is caused by the perpetrator's choice to carry out a
violent and illegal act, not by the victim's clothing or behavior. Others, however, believe that the
victim's clothing is to blame when rape occurs; is the victim's clothing the cause of rape? I firmly
believe that what you wear does not result in rape, for the following reasons.

First of all, regardless matter what the victim is wearing, the criminal actually intends to commit
the crime. Regardless of what the victim is wearing, the attacker actually intends to rape them
because it's an intentional choice rather than an impulsive action. The offender premeditates
and arranges their acts, frequently picking victims based on their perceived vulnerability or
isolation. Whether the victim is wearing modest attire or a skimpy garment, it does not excuse or
justify the offender's behavior. It is an abominable act of violence that must always be criticized.

Second, everyone has the right to be respected and treated with dignity, regardless of how they
are dressed. Personal style and clothing preferences do not excuse or support sexual abuse.
Rape victims exist in all sizes and forms; they are not only those who dress a certain way.

Thirdly, rape is one such conduct that results in severe harm, and the perpetrator's lack of self-
control and discipline causes them to carry out this damaging activity.

Additionally, studies have revealed that those who commit sexual violence frequently struggle
with impulse control and their violent sexual impulses. This highlights the significance of self-
discipline and self-control in rape prevention by indicating that certain perpetrators may lack the
self-regulation abilities required to manage their own behavior.

In conclusion, it is outdated, harmful, and unjustified to connect rape instances to a person's

clothing because it places the blame on the victim rather than the offender. The victim's attire
has no bearing on the incident, and they should never be held responsible for the clothing they
choose to wear. Instead of spreading misconceptions and presumptions, it is the duty of the
public and the legal system to hold the criminal accountable for their acts. The goal should
always be to completely eliminate the culture of rape while advancing gender equality, respect,
and consent.
