Course Structure :

The performance of the student shall be evaluated with a maximum of 100 marks for each course.
The evaluation shall be for 25 marks through internal evaluation and 75 marks through external end
semester examination. The description regarding the mid semester marks and external end semester
marks is as follows:

For the consideration of awarding the final internal marks an average of two mid exams is calculated
and added to the objective score and recorder for a maximum of 25.
External End Semester Marks
The university end examination shall be conducted for duration of three hours with total marks
being 75.
The End examination shall contain a total of ten questions with two questions from each of the five
units on either or basis. The student shall answer one question from each unit compulsorily. Each
question carries fifteen marks. The total marks will be 75.

VIII. Syllabus:
UNIT – I
Computers in Industrial Manufacturing, Product cycle, CAD / CAM Hardware, Basic structure, CPU,
Memory types, input devices, display devices, hard copy devices, storage devices.
COMPUTER GRAPHICS: Raster scan graphics coordinate system, database structure for graphics
modeling, transformation of geometry, 3D transformations, mathematics of projections, clipping,
hidden surface removal.
UNIT – II
GEOMETRIC MODELING: Requirements, geometric models, geometric construction models, curve
representation methods, surface representation methods, modeling facilities desired.
DRAFTING AND MODELING SYSTEMS: Basic geometric commands, layers, display control commands,
editing, dimensioning, and solid modeling.
UNIT – III
NUMERICAL CONTROL: NC, NC modes, NC elements, NC machine tools, structure of CNC machine
tools, features of Machining centre, turning centre, CNC Part Programming: fundamentals, manual part
programming methods, Computer Aided Part Programming.
GROUP TECH: Part family, coding and classification, production flow analysis, advantages and
limitations, Computer Aided Processes Planning, Retrieval type and Generative type.
UNIT – IV
COMPUTER AIDED QUALITY CONTROL: Terminology in quality control, the computer in QC, contact
inspection methods, non contact inspection methods-optical, non contact inspection methods-non
optical, computer aided testing, integration of CAQC with CAD/CAM.
UNIT – V
COMPUTER INTEGRATED MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS: Types of Manufacturing systems, Machine
tools and related equipment, material handling systems, computer control systems, human labor in the
manufacturing systems, CIMS benefits.
