Letter of Motivation

My name is Syed Muhammad Baqir Raza, and I have graduated in ELECTRICAL


ENGINEERING from University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Taxila in Pakistan.
UET Taxila is one of the reputed institutes of Pakistan and it comes under the state. The primary
advantage of being a student in a state institution is that you can live among individuals from
different places in Pakistan and all over the World. Simultaneously, being admitted in the top
ranked university of Pakistan gave me an opportunity to explore the areas of my field of interest.
The experiences I gained from working on different projects inspired an appetite for research and
development and helped me in grasping fundamental engineering concepts, during this period of
my under-graduation journey. I have always wanted to be a person who loves to do good for others
in the society technically. By the passage of time, I have felt that the fields I like the most during
my entire course of engineering are Signals & Systems and Data Structures & Algorithms.
After that the Communication Systems course was offered that arouse my interest in this field
more than before. I always wanted to get myself best in this field for which I consulted many books
and kept myself updated with the methods terminology and laws that govern the Signal
Processing.
With my inclination towards research, I got a chance to study the recent developments in Smart
Grid Systems and Smart Distribution Systems. In supervision of my professor, I completed my
Final Year Project covering the topic of Monitoring and Protection of Electrical Distribution
Systems using IOT devices. In the modern era, automation is obsoleting the conventional manual
systems rapidly. Many industries including the power and communication industry are shifting
towards IoT-based automation for reliable, electric power in an environmentally friendly and
sustainable manner. As the distribution systems are a vital element in Power Systems, so my final
year project aided in providing an automated solution for this particular electrical distribution
system problems, like line fault detection, fault monitoring, fault classification, system protection
and load shifting to ensure continuity of electrical supply to the users. I learned coding with
raspberry Pi, Arduino, and other modules.
The advancement in the field of communication and signal processing always fascinates me to
learn about them. I am a self-taught person and I always search for the new technologies that are
directly benefitting the society. These are the few reasons that make me apply for the master’s
program Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in FAU. I do believe that the main
aim of an ‘ENGINEER’ must be to develop something new rather than doing a job of using,
monitoring, or controlling the pre-existing applications made by others. Apart from the routine
courses I also did some certifications from Coursera. I also did internships in power management
and distribution company to get myself familiar with how systems work there.
This program will help me achieve the skill set and expertise necessary to succeed in my pursuits.
To pursue my education there is just like a dream for me. If I qualify for this program then I can
start getting myself adapted to new technology, getting acquainted with the culture and groom
myself so that I can make mark in world utilizing my abilities and knowledge that I gained there.
As people from different nations would be having the same course so it would be a worthy
experience for me that I would always remember and utilize throughout my professional life.
Furthermore, I am also learning German language to blend with the society and become familiar
with the culture as well. By studying this Program at FAU, I want to get more exposure to the
cutting-edge technologies in the area of Information and Communication Technology which is the
heart of Electrical Engineering.
The distinguished faculty and excellent facilities at FAU make this program ideally suited to my
goals. To get an opportunity to study in this esteemed university, it will certainly be an opportunity
of a lifetime and I intend to grab this opportunity with both hands and excel if given the choice. I
ensure you that I would always work for something new, faster, and accessible and devote my
entire life for this cause. I am writing this letter from the core of my heart and very hopeful that
the authorities would consider my application for this course and give me a chance to prove myself
worthy for this field.
