Foreword:
The High-Pressure Technology (HPT) Committee of the ASME Pressure Vessels and
Piping Division focuses on the design, analysis, research, development, and operation of
pressure vessels, components and systems whose operating service pressures are
generally in excess of 10,000 psi (70 MPa). Technical paper topics covered a range from
design, analysis, operation and maintenance of high-pressure components, high
pressure-high temperature subsea components, fracture and fatigue control, vessels and
piping subjected to highly dynamic loading conditions, such as detonations, deflagrations,
and projectile impacts, and polyethylene component design. The depth and breadth of
the High-Pressure Technology Track represents a wide knowledge-base and expertise
spanning various engineering and technical disciplines. PVP-2022 has Topics/Symposia
associated with particular research areas, specifically:
The PVP-2022 High-Pressure Technology Track has been organized by Matt Edel,
Technical Program Representative (TPR) and Dusan Spernjak, co-TPR with assistance
from the High-Pressure Technology Committee Chair, Kannan Subramanian. The HPT
sponsored papers and sessions in this track represent the culmination of dedicated efforts
of many individuals: authors, reviewers, session developers, technical program
committee members, and the ASME staff. The High-Pressure Technology Technical
Program Representatives are especially grateful to Andy Duncan, Conference Chair and
Clay Rodery, Technical Program Chair for their leadership in organizing this year’s PVP
program.

Foreward:
Each year, the Operations, Applications and Components Technical Committee has
sponsored technical sessions addressing range of topics that are important in the power
and process industries, including: oil and gas, nuclear and fossil power plants, pipelines,
and etc. In addition, OAC has sponsored technical sessions on toxic substances such as
storage and transportation of radioactive materials which is very important in the nuclear
power and defense industry. These sectors of technology are dependent upon the
disciplines addressed by the Pressure Vessels and Piping Division. For the 2022 PVP
Conference, OAC has continued on these activities, collecting publication on a large
domain of topics, by authors from around the world.
The OAC Technical program for 2022 includes papers organized into technical sessions
on the following subcommittees and topics:
OAC-2 has technical presentations concerning the qualification and testing that are
included in other sessions.
OAC-5 has developed sessions addressing design, testing, analysis, reliability and safety
of pumps and valves. OAC-5 is operated jointly with OAC-3.
OAC-6 has developed sessions on life cycle management of pressure vessels and
continued safe operations.
OAC-7 has developed sessions on the aging effect management for life extension of
nuclear and other power plants.
The papers in the topic areas discussed above are important contributions to the
technology and operation for the power and process industries which are important to
efficiently and effectively meeting global energy challenges in the future. The papers
presented in all sessions have been subjected to a formal review process in accordance
with ASME requirements.
The Operations, Applications and Components Committee appreciates the time and effort
the Authors, Topic Organizers, Reviewers, Conference Leadership Team, and ASME
Staff have invested in this technical program for the PVP2022.
SEISMIC ENGINEERING
Foreword:
Past seismic events have tragically demonstrated the high vulnerability of Civil and
Industrial structures in earthquake prone areas. This is the main reason of the continuous
research activity devoted to new and effective design/assessment methods. However,
while the experience in civil construction has seen decades of growing, the activity related
to industrial installations started its development only few years ago.
In this respect, Seismic Engineering Technical Committee (SETC) of the ASME Pressure
Vessels and Piping Division (PVPD) encourages and promotes the expansion of
knowledge in a broad range of seismic-related topics. Important topics of interest include
the fundamental and engineering aspects of Seismic resistance and margin, Seismic
isolation, Damping and Energy dissipation, Structural dynamics and Control, Damage
assessment, Multi-hazard and Risk evaluation, Seismic qualification of structures and
components, Testing, and analysis verification, National or International programs on
seismic and lifeline engineering, Advanced seismic evaluation and Codes.
For the 2022 ASME PVP Conference, a total of 23 papers are published in Seismic
Engineering. These papers represent the direct result of continuing interest and
On behalf of the contributing editors, the SETC and the PVPD, the principal editor would
like to express his thanks to all the authors for the contributions of their work. He also
