Written Report For Lesson Exemplar
Written Report For Lesson Exemplar
This report provides a comprehensive overview of a lesson exemplar designed for Grade
Nine Mathematics students at Sampaguita Village National High School prepared by yours truly
John Melan A. Gerodias. This lesson focuses on the concepts of angles of elevation and angles of
depression, aiming to help students understand and apply these concepts using trigonometric
ratios in real-life scenarios. I used the Problem-Based Learning approach (PRBL), where I
involved my students in learning through experience and solving a problem, as I believe that this
method can encourage my students to develop their critical thinking skills and self-directed
learning strategies.
I also made activities such as "Eye Spy Angles," as the introduction activity. It involves
grouping students to discuss and identify scenarios involving angles of elevation or depression,
followed by creating skits or drawings to present their findings to the class. This activity
encourages student interaction and engagement while helping them understand the basic
concepts. "Angle Explorer Scavenger Hunt," as the engagement activity, it involves my students
to work in groups to find locations described in clues, identify objects or landmarks, and
determine the angles of elevation or depression related to these objects. This activity allows
students to apply their knowledge in a real-world context. For assimilation, students participate
in the “Scavenger hunt”, recording their findings on Assimilation Activity Worksheets. The
activity reinforces their understanding of the concepts through practical application. While in the
development phase, I discussed how architects and engineers use angles of elevation and
depression in their work, definitions and visual illustrations of these angles are also provided,
along with steps to solve related problems and examples, where students calculate the height of a
building using the angle of elevation and trigonometric ratios, illustrating the practical
application of these concepts. Having these activities, I was able to have all the 4Cs during my
discussion, I was able to have Critical-Thinking as the students were able to question their
assumptions and consider multiple perspectives before forming conclusions during their
activities, Communication for the part where I grouped them so that they can express their ideas
clearly, listen actively to others, and used various forms of communication to discuss with each
other to complete each activities, Collaboration on the part where I let them focus on working
effectively with others towards a common goal, and Creativity where they were able to generate
new ideas, approaches, or solutions to problems as it encourages them to think innovatively,
experiment with different perspectives, and explore unconventional solutions.
The ICT Tools that the Teacher utilized in this lesson include a multimedia projector for
displaying visual aids and presentations, a laptop for preparing and presenting digital content,
and video presentation software Canva. These tools facilitate interactive teaching, making the
lesson engaging and accessible, while supporting diverse learning styles and enhancing student
understanding of mathematical concepts, and at the end of the lesson, students reflect on their
learning by writing in their daily class journals, completing statements about their understanding,
realizations, and areas needing further learning.
