Software Changes:

Engine

Vehicle Over-speed
Problem: During a CAN hardware failure event, vehicles can exceed the
programmed speed limiters.
Solution: Calibration change to allow the VSPD signal to recover within 1 second
and prevent vehicle over-speeding.

P1497/ P1498/ P101C/ P101D

Problem: MIL becomes illuminated by temporarily stuck actuator valve incidents
and cause driver annoyance.
Solution: Calibration update to move faults from a 1-trip to a 2-trip MIL.

U1928/ U185C – DEF quality and concentration faults

Problem: Both PCI and ACM handle faults causing driver annoyance.
Solution: Update to move faults to silent in the PCI.

P0072/ P0073 – Ambient temperature faults

Problem: Faults are prone to false failures.
Solution: Calibration update to move from a 1-trip to a 2-trip MIL to improve
robustness.

U1571/ U1577 – EGR valve and BPV actuator time-out faults

Problem: Faults are prone to false failures.
Solution: Calibration update to move from a 1-trip to a 2-trip MIL to improve
robustness.

U0104 – CAN Message time-out from vehicle control system

Problem: Fault does not point toward potential damage or loss of power.
Solution: Update to move fault to silent to align with other OEMs.

U0011/ U1011/ U1014/ U1015 CAN faults

Problem: CAN errors set and do not help pinpoint the issue and cause driver
annoyance.
Solution: Disable the generic CAN faults. Remove Red from U1011 fault.

P0087/ P1087 – Fuel Pressure – data valid but too low faults
Problem: Faults are prone to false fails.
Solution: Calibration update to improve ability to pinpoint root cause.

EPS Update
Problem: Customer complaints of vehicle shutdowns due to low voltage.
Solution: Battery voltage has been removed as a cause of derate and/or shutdown.

P229B – Common rail pressure release valve current – too low

Problem: Fault is prone to false fails.
Solution: Calibration update to improve robustness.
Engine cont’d

P1482/ P1483/ P1485/ P1487/ P1020/ P1021/ P1023/ P1025

Problem: Diagnostics are sensitive to CAN resets.
Solution: Calibration update to make diagnostics more robust.

Pedal PWM Angle Threshold

Problem: Software believes pedal is being “touched” when it is not.
Solution: Increase specific thresholds to allow for sensor tolerances.

P3914/P3913 – NOx sensor catalyst – Data not rational

Problem: Faults are prone to false fails.
Solution: Calibration update to move faults from a 1-trip to a 2-trip MIL.

P1723 – Pre-turbine pressure (P3) control deviation high

Problem: Pre-turbine pressure control deviation high is prone to false fails.
Solution: Software update to change from a 1-trip to a 2-trip MIL.

P1524/ P0524 – Engine oil pressure – Data valid but too low faults
Problem: Faults are prone to false fails in very cold ambient temperatures.
Solution: Calibration update to speed threshold for fault monitor.

P1570 – Engine Oil Temperature – Data Erratic, Intermittent or Incorrect, During Engine
Warm-Up
Problem: Fault is prone to false fails.
Solution: Calibration update to temperature thresholds to prevent against false
fails.

P0472/P2541/P0407/P047C/P0197/P0473/P2542/P0408/P047D/P0198/P1645 Fault
Codes
Problem: Faults are prone to false fails causing driver annoyance.
Solution: Change from 1-trip to 2-trip MIL.

P1160/P1161/P1164 – Wheel Speed Sensor Faults

Problem: Faults are prone to false fails causing driver annoyance.
Solution: Individual wheel speed sensor diagnostics are silenced. Move P1160 and
P1161 from a 1-trip MIL to a 2-trip MIL.

P0480 – Electronically controlled fan – Current too low or open circuit on ECU (D420)
pin C74
Problem: Fault does not help in diagnosis of root cause.
Solution: Fault is silenced as Fan telltale is sufficient indication of failure.

U0129/ P3937 – EBC1 time-out / DEF quality

Problem: Faults do not add value to driver, technician, or vehicle as a whole.
Solution: Faults are silenced.
Engine cont’d

P3866 – NOx Sensor Diagnostics

Problem: Frequent MILs due to sensor errors
Solution: Calibration change to move diagnostics from a 1-trip to a 2-trip MIL and
reduce driver impact.

P1127 – Intercooler temperature – Data valid but too high

Problem: Fault is redundant as it is a cascading fault as well as disabled in future
model years.
Solution: Fault is disabled.

P0046/ P0047 – VTG turbocharger actuator

Problem: If these faults set, it can lead to extreme soot build up and the DPF could
blow out on the street.
Solution: Move faults from a 2-trip to a 1-trip MIL and add a Red Lamp.

P1495/ P1515 – EGR Malfunction Detected

Problem: A derate occurs with this fault and is unable to heal.
Solution: Derate functionality moved to the DEFOI module, allowing the derate to
heal in the event of a false fail. P1515 is silenced.

P1086 – Common rail fuel pressure – Increase too slow

Problem: Monitor is prone to false fails when starting with low fuel supply pressure.
Solution: Calibration update to improve monitor system.
Aftertreatment

Improvements to PM Service Test

P3914/P3913 – NOx sensor catalyst – Data not rational

Problem: Faults are prone to false fails.
Solution: Calibration update to move faults from a 1-trip to a 2-trip MIL.

P3836/ P3835/ P3841

Problem: Faults are latched over a key-cycle with no possibility to heal.
Solution: Calibration update to remove latch over key-cycle.

P3831/ P3832/ P3834/ P3835/ P3838/ P3839/ P3840/ P3842/ P3843

Problem: Faults are prone to false fails.
Solution: HC Doser faults moved from a 1-trip to a 2-trip MIL.

DOC regen interval changed from 20 hours to 10 hours.

P3841 Air shutoff valve – Stuck in closed position

Problem: Fuel spill is possible during pressure test if this fault is set and can occur
when an HC dosing system has a significant leakage.
Solution: Disable latch over key-cycle and enable functionality and move from 1-trip
to 2-trip.

P3917/ P3918/ P3927/ P3929/ P3972

Problem: Sensing elements can become cracked if the heater is on at too low of a
sensor temperature.
Solution: Calibration update to improve robustness.
