Course Outline

Project Monitoring, Evaluation, & Control (PMEC)

Course Description
The Project Monitoring, Evaluation, and Control course is an advanced postgraduate course. The same topics are covered in Project Management courses offered at CASE. Therefore, students who have taken any of the PM courses (Project Management, Software Project Management, etc.) at CASE may find some repetition in this course. A PM course is not a pre-requisite for this course. Therefore, some material might be repeated from a PM course 0for the students who have not taken any of the PM courses. However, this duplication will be minimal since the PMEC is designed to cover advanced topics in Monitoring, Evaluation, and Control. For example, under monitoring, special considerations related to multi-location and multi-cultural projects will be discussed. Under Project Evaluation, in addition to classical financial evaluation techniques, evaluation under mergers and acquisitions, evaluation by customers, and role of intangible factors in the evaluation process will be covered. In addition, the role of soft factors, along with well established process-related project monitoring and control processes, will be discussed under these topics.

Guest Lecturers
A few lecture slots will be kept available to address special requests from the students and to bring in subject matter experts as guest speakers.

Project
Students will be required to select a project topic to work towards a project report or a research paper. They are encouraged to form teams of 3-5 students and select their topic as soon as possible preferably within 2-3 weeks after the start of the course. All students (including Distance Learning students will be required to make on-campus project presentations). Details regarding the format of the paper and the report will be communicated by the class TA.

Assessment
Several quizzes, class assignments, reading assignments will be conducted during the semester. In additional to Mid-term, final exam, one additional test might also be conducted. Final exam will include all material covered up to the final exam. All tests including the mid-term and final exam, unless they are announced in advanced to be closed book, will be open book.
