2) DONOR
The Late J H Stiglingh, member of the PSA and Secretary of the then Administrative Section.
3) CONTROL
The Committee responsible for the award and control of the bursary, consists of the General Manager and the
Deputy General Manager of the PSA. This Committee reports to the Board of the Directors of the PSA as soon
as possible after every such award has been made.
The amount of R299 168, 21 must be invested and 80% of the annual interest earnings must be used for
bursaries from the 1993 academic year. The remaining 20% must be added to the capital annually as a measure
against inflation.
The value of the bursaries is a minimum of R3 000, 00 and a maximum of R10 000 p.a. each and are revised
annually for the following year. The number of bursaries is determined annually according to the available funds
and the number of qualifying applicants.
6) BASIS OF AWARD
All applicants, whose latest academic achievements indicate that, according to statistical data, they have
successfully completed the year course of the course of study/research project, are considered on an equal
basis, but in order of competence for a bursary in respect of such completed year of study or project. Because
there are always many more applicants than the available bursaries, not all who qualify academically can
necessarily receive an award. Similarly, applicants with the best academic achievements are not given
preference since proficiency remains the decisive factor.
Public servants and/or members and their dependant children who have been in the employ of the Public Service
or a member of the PSA for at least 12 months on the closing date of the year in which a bursary is applied for,
who follow undergraduate or post-graduate studies part-time or full-time in NATURAL SCIENCES or MEDICINE,
or who are involved in research on Natural Sciences or Medicine at a recognised South African University in the
Republic of South Africa or abroad after successful completion of the first study year course or research project,
can apply for a bursary: On the understanding that preference will be given to members of the PSA and their
dependent children.
8) DURATION OF BURSARIES
The prescribed application forms are available from universities and the PSA and the closing date for applications
(with universities and copies to the PSA) for study in the following year is 15 October.
Proof of application submission to universities by the closing date (15 October) should be provided to the PSA.
10) WHO GRANTS BURSARIES
Universities submit all the applications from candidates as soon as possible after the closing date, but not later
than 15 January of each year to the PSA in order of preference, after which the Committee mentioned in item 3,
in consultation with the university authorities concerned, decide to whom the bursaries should be granted.
