BY CAREERCURIOUS

Overall: So-so.

I would say that this is more for someone

who reaaallly doesn't know what they want
to do or where to even begin. I didn't
realize this when signing up for the
assessment. There weren't any surprise
moments for me—aside from the report
listing a few elementary education roles as
possible career avenues (spoiler: I don't
really enjoy being around tons of kids)—as
I already know most of what it is I enjoy
doing, I was just looking for a bit of career
refinement and insight.

Also, be wary of the overall assessment and

take it with a hefty grain of salt. I don't
know that there are enough questions (or
whether they are refined enough) to
provide a well-rounded assessment of you
and your interests. A few years ago I took a
personality test, based on a very popular
book, that zeroed in on my five major
talent themes. I don't remember how
many questions (maybe 200-300+?) were in
the test but I remember it taking quite a
bit of time. I still feel that was one of the
most accurate assessments I've ever
received and it was well worth the time
and money.

In short: I'd much rather spend more time

answering questions up front in order to
receive a much more comprehensive
assessment. I'm sure the good folks at
Truity have done extensive testing around
this and have factored in dropo!/bail
rates, etc. when determining just how
many questions to ask, but the flip side of
this is that they are sacrificing "good" for
fast and cheap (and at $30 it wasn't even
that cheap).

Pros:

You can get through the questions and to

your report fairly quickly. However, based
on one of my many listed Cons below and
my overall assessment above, you'll see
that this leads me to believe that perhaps
some additional analysis refinement or
accuracy was sacrificed for e"ciency.

I paid for the full report and found that the

tone, cadence, delivery, etc. was very well
executed. I didn't find any of it
overwhelming and, in fact, was expecting a
little bit more of a deep dive for the price
paid.

Cons:

I found the report to have some fairly

significant inaccuracies. This is most likely
based on how I responded to the
questions, but I do feel there are also some
liberties being taken in the overall back-
end analysis of my responses. For example,
never once was I asked, "Do you enjoy
physical activity?" or "Do you enjoy
working with plants and/or animals?" Yet
the assessment extrapolated through one
(or several responses) that this was indeed
the case, and therefore recommend these
as areas I should avoid, when these are
actually things I very much enjoy. Being in
the garden with my dog is one of my
happiest environments, and I love physical
labor and getting my hands dirty. It also
said I should avoid careers where I'm
making something 'tangible, practical, and
useful'. This is my modus operandi and
what I strive for in everything I create, so I
kind of got a chuckle out of this
recommendation.

Again, listing possible careers for me that

have to do with interacting with lots of
children (definite no), becoming a nurse, or
working with people who are struggling
with major life issues, seemed like a real
miss since, according to the report (and my
own personal experience), I'm very
empathic. As someone who is empathic, I
very easily take on the energy, joy, pain,
and su!ering of others, which in turn can
cause stress for me, and this report noted I
should avoid high-stress environments. So,
naturally, I'm very confused.

Additionally, I scored low on the

"Pragmatist" approach to problem-solving.
I'm not sure how this correlates (if at all) or
aligns to my career interests because I also
scored very high on the "Organization"
interest area. Isn't organization inherent in
taking a pragmatic approach to problem-
solving? Organization = structure and
logic, which in turn is pragmatic...?

Maybe I'm reading too much into this,

which is probably the case since I'm a
classic over-thinker. *sigh*

I love how much this broke down the

attributes of my personality, as well as my
weaknesses, and gave me things to seek or
watch out for while choosing a career path.
I also love seeing the top career options for
my personality. I would have never even
considered some of them and they are
worth considering.

This is a really interesting and helpful tool,

even if you are mostly aware of what you
want out of a career! For me, it really
a"rmed what I kind of knew already but
have been second-guessing lately, having
just quit my stressful accounting job. I
know that I want to pivot into the non-
profit field but feeling at a bit of a loss as to
what exactly I could do. I generally know
my strengths and weaknesses, but the full
report really lays it out nicely! I'm actually
planning on going through the report
again and using it to spruce up my resume
more to showcase my strengths. I was
pleasantly surprised at how much
information it provided.

This was an amazing, comprehensive

report. I've had the report for 4 months
now and this is my 3rd time going over it.
It's been helpful in helping me figure out
what directions to take in my career.

I'm at the end of my career, but maybe it's

time to start a new career. One of the
things I want to do is help young people
better understand themselves and the life
that they were made to live. This
assessment will be a good tool to help
them.
