Course Content
The Real number System: field and order structure, principle of
induction, Rational & Irrational numbers, Bounded sets, Supremum and
Infimum, Completeness in the set of real numbers. Topology of the Real
Numbers: Open sets, limit points, closed sets and closure of sets.
Sequences: Limit point of a sequence. Limit superior and Limit Inferior,
Convergent sequences, Monotonic sequence, Cauchy sequence, principle
of convergent sequences. Series: Partial sum of series, Convergence of
series, Absolute and conditional convergence of series. Tests of
convergence: Comparison tests, Cauchy’s Root test, D’Alembert’s Ratio
test, Integral test, Alternating series test. Countable and uncountable
sets; Functions: Limits,Continuity and Uniform Continuity (Pre-
Requisite: SMA 200: Calculus II)

Continuous assessment tests: 30%
