INTRODUCTION:
The national rural health mission was launched in April 2005 to provide effective
health care to rural population throughout the country. The mission aims to expedite
achievement of policy goals by facilitating enhanced access and utilization of quality health
services, with an emphasis on addressing equity and gender dimension.
The National Rural Health Mission seeks to adopt a sector wide approach and subsumes key
national programmes. Such as: The Reproductive and Child Health Programme, The National
Disease Control Programmes and The Integrated Disease Surveillance Project. NRHM will also
enable the mainstreaming of Ayurvedic, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy Systems of
Health (AYUSH).
AIMS OF NRHM
To provide accessible, affordable, accountable, effective and reliable PHC
Bridging the gap in rural health care through the creation of a cadre of Accredited Social
Health Activist (ASHA).
GOALS OF NRHM
Reduction In Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) & maternal mortality rate (MMR)
Universal access to public health services.
Prevention and control of communicable & non communicable diseases.
Access to integrated comprehensive primary health care.
Population stabilization, gender and demographic balance.
Revitalize local health traditions and mainstream AYUSH.
Promotion of health life style.
