the end of the half meter rule.
i. Draw a sketched diagram indicating the arrow of weight of the rule acting
through the center of gravity ( 2 marks )
ii. Determine the weight of the half meter rule ( 2 marks )
(b). Students at kipengele secondary school, were using a school jack which had a
pitch of 5mm with an effort arm of 16cm in the laboratory. Their physics teacher
asked them first to state two forms of energy in which the energy supplied to
screw jack is finally converted to and lastly to determine the percentage efficiency
of that screw jack, if it needs effort of 30N to lift a load of 750N. as a form student
give us a precise answer. ( 5 marks)
4. (a) Major Damian prefers to drink water lather than Juice for quenching thirst. Briefly
explain why? (3 marks )
(b) A soldier shot a bullet and travel at a velocity of 360 m/s is stopped by a stationary
sand bag. If 20% of the energy lost by the bullet was converted to heat energy that was
absorbed by the bullet. What was the increase in temperature of the bullet ? ( 6 marks )
5. (a). Explain three real practical examples in which impulse and momentum play on
the important role in day to day life ( 3 marks )
(b). A young man of 25 years was driving a 1000kg car at very high speed and later
collided with a truck of 5000kg during the collision, the truck exerted a force10000N
on the car. What can you say on the acceleration of the car and the truck? ( 6 marks )
6. (a) The diagram below shows the deflection of the radiations from a radioactive
element by electric field.

7. (a). i. Why atmospheric pressure never breaks glass windows of a house ( 2 marks )

off some air from the tyres. Explain this observation. ( 2 marks )
(b). A rectangular wooden rod of density 200kg/m3 has dimension of 0.3mx 0.5mx
0.6m calculate the maximum pressure it can exert on the ground and how is it
experienced. ( 5 marks )
8. (a). Look at the image of the pulley. If the bucket A has a mass of 5 Kg. What will be
the minimum
effort force required to lift the bucket if friction is ignored ? ( 6 marks )
10. (a) i. State the law of flotation and Archimedes’ principle. ( 2 marks )
ii. A body weighs 0.52N in air. When it is totally immersed in water it weighs
0.32N while it is immersed in another liquid is 0.36N. Determine the density of the
other liquid. ( 4 marks )
(b). ii. The velocity of a car Q relative to car R is 8m/s when the two cars are moving
in the same direction and 28m/s when the two cars are moving in opposite directions.
Determine the velocity of each car. (4 marks )
11. (a). Two turning forks of the same frequency are available in the laboratory. One fork
is loaded with some plastic tine to alter its frequency slightly. What would you expect to
observe if two forks are sounded together? ( 3 marks )
(b). A string of length 40cm is made to vibrate at its fundamental frequency and then
at second overtone. Calculate the wave length at each case. ( 6 marks )
(c). i. Why do we hear sound of an approaching car before the car reaches us? ( 3
marks )
ii. If the frequency of wave is doubled and of the speed remains constant. What
happen to its wavelength? ( 3 marks )
