9.

Apply the Excel Regression tool using the wedding cost as the dependent variable and attendance as
the independent variable. Interpret all key regression results, hypothesis tests, and confidence intervals
in the output.

Step 1:

Adjusted R Square = 0.518

 The regression line moderately fits with the data.

 51.8% of the wedding cost is explained by the attendance.

Step 2: ANOVA

H0: There is no significant coefficient (No regression line).

H1: There is at least 1 significant coefficient (Has a regression line).

F = 26.753; p < 0.001  P < 0.005

 There is at least 1 significant coefficient.

 Accept H1.

Step 3: Assessment of coefficient

C: t = 0.383; p = 0.706 > 0.05

 There is no significant coefficient.

Attendance: t = 5.172; p < 0.001  p < 0.05

 There is at least 1 significant coefficient.

Step 4:

Model using Unstandardized Coefficients

Wedding cost = 130.121 * Attendance

Example: If Attendance = 300

 Wedding cost = 130.121*300 = 39036.3

Model using Standardized Coefficients

Wedding cost = 0.733 * Attendance

Attendance has the positive impact on the Wedding cost

10. Apply the Excel Regression tool using the wedding cost as the dependent variable and the couple’s
income as the independent variable, only for those weddings paid for by the bride and groom. Interpret
all key regression results, hypothesis tests, and confidence intervals in the output.

Step 1:

Adjusted R Square = 0.675

 The regression line moderately fits with the data.

 67.5% of the wedding cost is explained by the attendance.

Step 2: ANOVA

H0: There is no significant coefficient (No regression line).

H1: There is at least 1 significant coefficient (Has a regression line).

F = 50.906; p < 0.001  P < 0.005

 There is at least 1 significant coefficient.

 Accept H1.

Step 3: Assessment of coefficient

C: t = -1.096; p = 0.284 > 0.05

 There is no significant coefficient.

Couple’s Income: t = 7.135; p < 0.001  p < 0.05

 There is at least 1 significant coefficient.

Step 4:

Model using Unstandardized Coefficients

Wedding cost = 0.418 * Couple’s Income

Example: If Attendance = 75000

 Wedding cost = 0.418 * 75000 = 31350

Model using Standardized Coefficients

Wedding cost = 0.830 * Couple’s Income

Couple’s Income has the positive impact on the Wedding cost

11. Apply the Excel regression tool using crime rate (CRIM) as the dependent variable and pupil-teacher
ratio (PTRATIO) in the region as the independent variable. Interpret all key regression results, hypothesis
tests, and confidence intervals in the output.

The Excel file Crime can not be found.
