synchronization
progress can be
displayed. In addition,
the display of the
output information is
adjusted, that is, the
information about only
the modules that fail to
be synchronized is
displayed.
The information output
area is non-modal.

Power Consumption Management
of Devices and Boards
• The major functions of managing power consumption
provided by the N2000 BMS V200R012C05 are as
follows:
Querying energy saving status of a board
Querying the power of a shelf
Querying the power of a board
Querying the power of an environment monitor unit (EMU)
Querying the average power consumption of an xDSL port

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 12

Querying Energy Saving Status of a
Board
The MA5600T V800R007 supports the energy saving mode. By setting the energy saving mode, you
can control all the automatic energy saving features that customers pay attention to. By default, the
system does not working in the energy saving mode and the energy saving features are disabled. If
you run the system energy-saving mode command, the energy saving features are enabled. Then,
the boards that are not confirmed for a long time and the boards on which all the ports are
deactivated are powered off automatically. In this manner, the boards are in the automatic shutdown
state, which implements energy saving. On the N2000 BMS, a new color is used to indicate that a
board is in the automatic shutdown state, as shown in the following figure.

To restore the status of the board,

select one of the following ways:
1. Run the pow-on frameid[/slotid]
command to power on the board.
2. Remove the board that is in the
automatic shutdown state.
3. Disable the energy saving feature
by running the undo system
energy-saving mode command.

Improvement in the TDM E1 Connection
— Background
Requirement of the mobile carrier service:
•After an optical network unit (ONU) is deployed, a lot of TDM
E1 service configurations exist. The networking is shown in
the figure on the right side.
Configuration flow of the TDM E1 service (profile
mode):
•1. Plan line profiles according to the telecom requirements.
•2. Create an ONU.
•3. Create a GEM port, and bind it to an optical network
terminal (ONT).
•4. Create a TDMoGEM connection.
Configuration flow of the TDM E1 service Problems:

Improvement in the TDM E1 Connection
— Simplified Configuration

Simplified configuration:
•1. You can select an end-to-end resource based on the E1 port directly. In addition, the internal protocol concepts are masked.
•2. In the discrete mode, the configuration paths are simplified. After you click the button next to GemPort in the Line info area in the preceding
figure (note: this area is unavailable in the profile mode), you can complete parameter settings in not more than two interfaces. On the N2000 BMS
earlier than version V200R012C05, however, you need to switch between multiple interfaces to complete parameter settings, including configuring
the required sub-objects such as a GEM port and GEM connection on an ONU object.

Improvement in the System Parameter
Profile — Parameter Customization
Before improvement:
The system parameter
profile contained more
than 300 parameters and
the N2000 BMS issued all
the parameters, although
users paid attention to
only 10 to 20 parameters.
Therefore, the efficiency
was low and errors
occurred easily.

After improvement:
The parameters in the
system parameter profile
can be customized.
Therefore, users only
need to set the required
parameters.

Default Profile

Originally, global profiles do not have default data. Therefore, users need to enter data in each profile or synchronize the
data from devices. The N2000 BMS V200R012C05 provides a large number of default profiles for the FTTx application
scenarios. Therefore, users can use the profiles directly.
By editing or copying default profiles, users only need to modify a small part of parameters to generate the required profiles,
which greatly simplifies the operation of entering the data.
The N2000 BMS V200R012C05 provides default profiles such as the xDSL profile, xPON profile, and traffic profile.

The data in a default profile is added by default when the N2000 BMS is installed and does not require manual intervention.

Service Provisioning Profile

Parameters that are used commonly during service configuration

are abstracted and saved in a service provisioning profile.
When configuring services, users can directly bind a service
provisioning profile to the destination port through which services
are provisioned, and then enter customized parameters to
provision services. In this manner, the number of parameters that
need to be set is reduced greatly, and one-click service
provisioning is implemented.

Currently, service parameters in the service provisioning profile are

applicable only to the GPON/EPON FTTB and the GPON FTTH
scenarios.

GPON Technology Analysis: Optical Fiber
Protection
√ Protection range • Scheme: A single PON port with a built-in 1x2 optical switch is
used. The OLT initiates switchover.

Type A √ • Effect: Only the backbone optical fiber is protected.

Note: Type A protection is the backup at the physical layer purely

and is not related to the device. The Type A protection mode is
abolished in ITU-T SG15 meeting in Geneva on February, 2008.

• Scheme: The standby OLT PON port is in the standby state, and
the OLT initiates switchover. The active port and the standby port

Type B
√ √ can be on the same board or different boards.
• Effect: The backbone optical fiber, PON port, and board are
protected.

√ √ • Scheme: Overall protection is implemented. There are two hot

√ √ backup links between the OLT and the ONU. The ONU initiates
switchover. The two hot backup links can function as an active link
Type C
and a standby link respectively or support load balancing.
• Effect: Overall protection is implemented, that is, the backbone
optical fiber, PON port, board, optical splitter, and tributary optical
cable are protected.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 45

Type B Dual-Homing — Networking

With the increase of the optical split ratio, the number of users to which each PON port connects rises
increasingly. To ensure that the services are not affected when the backbone optical fiber or the OLT is
faulty, customers require that the Type B dual-homing protection for GPON ports should be supported.

Type B Dual-Homing Protection — Adding a
Protection Group
Restrictions:
1. The device types of the working member
and the protection member must be the
same.
2. The board types of the working group and
the protection group must be the same.
3. The members in a PS protection group
cannot be added to a dual-homing
protection group.

To add a protection group, perform the following operations:

1. Create a protection group on the N2000 BMS (perform this operation only on the N2000 BMS because
the device does not support a protection group) .
2. Add the working member to the protection group (set the port as the working member in a dual-homing
protection group, and change the description of the port to the name of the protection group) .
3. Add the protection member to the protection group (set the port as the protection member in the dual-
homing protection group, and change the description of the port to the name of the protection group).

Type B Dual-Homing Protection — Comparing
and Copying Member Configurations

1. In the case of dual-homing protection, the configurations of two ports must be the same. Currently,
the device cannot synchronize the configurations of two protection ports automatically.
2. The N2000 BMS supports the function of comparing the configurations of two members in a dual-
homing protection group. If the configurations of two members are different, you can copy the
configuration of a member to another member.

Type B Dual-Homing Protection — Flow of
Creating a Protection Group
If no protection group is created on the N2000 BMS, you cannot add two MxUs that
have the same IP address on two ports. In this case, create a protection group first
and copy the configuration of the port.

Procedure:
1. Create a protection
group.
2. Configure services for
the working member.
3. Copy the
configuration of the
working member to the
protection member
through the comparison
and copy functions.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 52

Differences Between Type B Dual-Homing
Protection and Common Type B Protection

Protection group management

is applicable to a single NE.
The members in a protection
group are two resources of the
device. On the interface for
protection group management,
you can create xPON Type B
protection and protection for
various resources, such as
boards, Ethernet ports, STM-1
ports, and aggregation groups.

Differences:
1. The two member ports in a dual-homing protection group belong to two OLTs, but the two member
ports in a common protection group belong to the same OLT.
2. In the case of the dual-homing protection, you can create only the Type B protection for GPON ports. In
the case of a common protection group, you can create xPON Type B protection and protection for
various resources such as boards, Ethernet ports, STM-1 ports, and aggregation groups.

When an EPON port on an OLT is faulty, you can find an EPON port that is idle
but in the normal state on the OLT and then copy the service configuration of the
faulty EPON port to the idle EPON port. In this manner, the services can be
restored as soon as possible.

Improvement in ONT Loading and
Upgrading
The N2000 BMS V200R012C05 supports the OLT of version
V800R007C00.

Concurrent performing of ONT configuration and upgrade tasks

Improvement in the ONT upgrade task:

The upgrade package need not be repeatedly downloaded from the file
server (control board) under certain circumstances, which greatly
improves the upgrade efficiency.

Concurrent performing of multiple ONT configuration tasks

Scheduling of ONT configuration tasks according to the priority

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 57

Concurrent Performing of ONT
Configuration and Upgrade Tasks
After improvement: The ONT configuration and upgrade tasks respectively
belong to two task queues. Therefore, the configuration and upgrade tasks of
different ONTs can be performed concurrently.

Before improvement: Only one task could be performed on each OLT at a time.

Advantage:
Consider a problem that occurred frequently before as an example. After
the upgrade file of a certain ONT is loaded completely, the ONT cannot
load the XML file in time because another ONT occupies the loading
process. Therefore, the user has to wait.
Now the configuration task of a certain ONT is not affected by the upgrade
task of another ONT after the upgrade task the ONT is complete.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 58

Explanation for Concurrency
Process of loading a file:
FTP- Serial-> OLT control board -Serial-> OLT PON board

-Concurrent-> ONT
In words, if ONT 1 is at one of the following two phases:
1.The control board is downloading a file from the FTP server.
2.The control board is transferring the file to the PON board.

At this time, if the N2000 BMS issues the loading task of ONT 2, the
loading task cannot be started for ONT 2. The loading task of ONT
2 starts only when the task of ONT 1 is at the next phase, that is,
the PON board sends the file to the ONT. Previous
The PON board can support multiple ONT loading tasks
concurrently.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 59

Improvement in the ONT Upgrade
Task (Before Improvement)
The OLT used to load the ONT versions in the serial mode. If multiple
ONTs are powered on in series, the last ONT that is powered on can be
loaded only after other ONTs are loaded. Assume that the number of
ONTs is N, and the upgrade task for each ONT takes eight minutes,
theoretically, the time that the last ONT waits is N x 8 minutes.

Note: The figure shows that

when one ONT is powered on Power on

Improvement in the ONT Upgrade
Task (After Improvement)
Provided that the upgrade files the ONTs use are the same, when the
upgrade task of an ONT is loaded, other ONTs are powered on in turn.
The N2000 BMS can issue the command for the ONT upgrade task
several times; the OLT (control board and PON board), however, saves
the upgrade file in the buffer instead of downloading it repeatedly. This
greatly improves the upgrade efficiency.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 61
Explanation for the Improvement in
the ONT Upgrade Task
•Prerequisite: The file server information and upgrade file of the ONT to
be upgraded must be the same as those of other ONTs. Otherwise, the
upgrade task of the ONT cannot be added to the loading task queue. This
scenario is not supported in this improvement.

•The OLT PON board and control board reserve the upgrade package until
a new ONT upgrade package is issued by the N2000 BMS.

• Conditions for the re-issue of the ONT upgrade package by the N2000
BMS:
1. If no upgrade task is being loaded on the N2000 BMS when the ONT
1 is upgraded, the N2000 BMS restarts the ONT upgrade task again.
2. The file server information or upgrade file is different from the existing
one.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 62

Concurrent Performing of Multiple
ONT Configuration Tasks
After the improvement, not only the configuration task and the upgrade task,
but also multiple configuration tasks can be performed concurrently. Not
surprisingly, the efficiency is improved greatly.
Notes: Explanation for Concurrency

•“Concurrent” performing of the configuration task and upgrade task, and

multiple configuration tasks is on certain conditions. To be exact, the
processes that the PON board sends the file to the ONT of the preceding
tasks are concurrent.
•The limit on the number of concurrent tasks: a maximum of 32 configuration
tasks can be performed concurrently.
To sum up, we provide the concurrent performing to the fullest extent. In
addition, another feature of the N2000 BMS V200R012C05 also ensures the
concurrent performing and makes the operation more convenient for the
customer, that is,

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 63

Scheduling ONT Configuration
Tasks According to the Priority
Each ONT configuration task can be configured with a priority, such as, the highest priority, high
priority, medium priority, and low priority.
• The default priority settings are as follows:
The configuration task that is issued through the NBI is configured with the high priority.
The configuration task that is issued through the GUI is configured with the medium priority.
•The configuration tasks with the same priority are scheduled according to the time sequence, that
is, the task that is created first is schedules first.
•The maximum number of tasks with the highest priority is 100. The number of other tasks with
other priorities is not limited.
•The priority of the configuration task to be loaded can be changed. On the N2000 BMS
V200R012C05, you can raise the priority of the configuration task that needs to be performed first.
Thus, compared with the N2000 BMS of earlier versions, the unnecessary waiting time is saved.

OLT Acting as an Agent for the Upgrade of
MxUs - Background and Principles
Previously, the MxUs were upgraded independently. If multiple MxUs were connected to
an OLT, the upgrade software needed to be transferred to the OLT several times. In this
case, the network resources were wasted. Only 600 MxUs could be upgraded every
night.

Direct Configuration of the MxU
Configuration from the Device – Background
of the Improved Query Operation

Originally, the direct obtainment of the MxU resource from the device was realized by
displaying all records after obtaining the records from the device at a time. In this case, the
user could not configure or save the query record until the query is complete. In addition,
the query took a long time under adverse network conditions.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 76

Direct Obtainment of the MxU Configuration
from the Device – Periodic Query

For the single NE management, the ADSL, VDSL, and SHDSL resources are queried in different periods.
The query result is returned several times, and the query data is displayed in the list in batches.
The displayed data can be configured and saved when the resources are queried.
The functions of query and filtering are grayed out during the performing of a query task. You can
proceed with the next query only when the last query is complete.
The query result is not sorted during the periodic query, because the N2000 BMS V200R012C05 does
not support the sorting of the xDSL resource. This does not affect the periodic query.

Precautions
The newly-delivered N2000 BMS V200R12C05 does not support the HA system
(Watchman). The N2000 BMS V200R12C05 that is upgraded from an earlier
version still supports the HA system (Watchman) until June, 2011. Therefore, it is
recommended that you should change the existing HA system (Watchman) to HA
system (Veritas) when upgrading the N2000 BMS HA system.

For the servers (T5220 or V890) with six hard disks, disk 5 and 6 are used as hot
spare disks on the N2000 BMS earlier than the V200R12C05. In practice, however,
the system disks and application disks have mirroring. Thus, the hot spare disks
takes little effect. In addition, the user has a strong requirement of a large partition
(or directory) for data backup. Hence, on the N2000 BMS V200R12C05, the hot
spare disks are changed into userdg in the /userbackup directory. The size is 130
GB. If the server is connected to the disk array, the /userbackup directory of the
same size is also added.

The disk array that is used for the N2000 BMS V200R12C05 is S2600. Huawei
ends the marketing of the S3100 that was used before.

The Sybase that is delivered with the N2000 BMS V200R12C05 is Sybase15.0.3.
The Sybase of earlier versions continue to be used. The license codes of the
license files of the Sybase15.0.3 are the same. The print license is the basis of
judging whether the Sybase is a genuine Huawei product.
