Poem – I Meant To Do My Work Today


Poet- Richard Le Gallienne

New words:
1 Flitted
2 Sighing
3 Tossing
4 Shining

Word Meanings;
1 flitted- flew away quickly.
2 sighing- breathing out slowly and noisily.
3 tossing- moving up and back suddenly.
Or
3.tossing- making something move from side to side or up and down.
4 to and fro- in one direction and then another, a number of times.

Answer these Questions:


Q 1What did the poet mean to do that day?
Ans- The poet meant to do his work that day.

Q 2 What stopped him from doing what he meant to do?


Ans-The brown bird, the rainbow, the butterfly, the wind and the leaves all stopped him from doing
his work.

Q 3 What did the poet eventually do?


Ans- The poet left his work and went outside.

Think And Answer

Q 1Is the poet a child or an adult? Give reason for your answer.

Ans- The poet is a child. A child would be more prone to being distracted by things outside.

Q 2 ‘ And all the leaves calling me’. What do you think they might have been saying?

Ans-The leaves were probably asking the narrator to join them outside.

Q 3 Give another title to this poem.

Ans- ‘I did not do my work today.’
