BIT 216: INTRODUCTION TO NETWORKING
1.0 COURSE PURPOSE
The purpose of this course is to introduce students with technical backgrounds to the major concepts, evolution trend, architecture, standards, technologies, design, and performance evaluation of computer network.
2.0 .COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the course, the learner should be able to: i. Understand a broad range of computer network terminologies and technologies ii. Equipped with the basic knowledge of computer network fundamentals critical for designing, selecting, or integrating these network technologies iii. Understand the meaning and power of a layered architectural model iv. Explain Internet addressing, naming, congestion control, and QoS v. Apply and implement addressing and routing techniques vi. Understand major network performance issues and be able to analyze the performance of basic LAN.
