Industrial visit report

An Industrial visit has been organized by the Department of Chemistry,


Sundarrao More College of Arts, Commerce & Science, Poladpur for
(Bachelor of Science) Second and Third-year Students on Saturday, 24th
February 2024 for the academic year 2023-24 to Astrid Life Science Ltd,
Unit 2 which is an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) Based
manufacturing industry located in MIDC, Mahad.

Visit summary
1. Type of Activity: Industrial Visit to Astrid Life Science Ltd, Unit 2 MIDC,
Mahad.
2. Date and time of Visit: 24th February 2024 From 10:00 hrs to 13:30 hrs
3. Students visited: B.Sc. (SY & TY) students of Chemistry.

Introduction of company
Aastrid Lifesciences Pvt. Ltd. started its manufacturing operations of
specialty chemicals and Pharmaceutical intermediates at Mahad,
Maharashtra, India in 2012. We at Aastrid Life Sciences believe that to
achieve manufacturing excellence a strong team should be backed up by
good engineering and a motivational working environment.
Our new plant is designed to optimize quality and safety and to maximize
our contributions to sustainability. It empowers us to deliver superior
specialty chemicals and API manufacturing solutions while ensuring the
highest levels of quality, safety, and environmental stewardship.
Manufacturing Units
• Laboratory Scale Production - Mhape, Maharashtra, India
Unit No 1-Mahad, Maharashtra, India
Unit No 2-Mahad, Maharashtra, India
Subsidiary Units - One at Mahad and Ambernath, Maharashtra, India.

Research and Development


• Aastrid has built up an exceptional and highly experienced research and
development team of 40 Personnel consisting of Doctorates and
postgraduates.
• 15% of research staff has more than 20 years' experience.

Manpower
• Aastrid has built up an exceptional and highly experienced research and
development team of 40 Personnel consisting of Doctorates and
postgraduates.
• 15% of research staff has more than 20 years' experience.

Achievements
• This team to date we have developed 500 plus molecules and
commercialized 60 plus products.
• Aastrid Lifesciences Pvt. Ltd. has one patent to its name and has won
the prestigious "Make in India Enablement" award in 2018.

Key Features of Various Departments Visited


1) Research and Development-Which deals with the Development of
New products (by making changes to existing Products or by taking
competitors' Sample and preparing Equivalents)
2) Quality Assurance: It looks after the Documental Process e.g if Your
Lab is USFDA Approved QA Team will make Sure that All the Procedures
are Followed As per USFDA Norms
3) Production: It looks After the Bulk production Of Company Products on
a Large Scale as per the requirement given by the sales and marketing
team.
4)Quality Control: The Samples From the production Batch are tested on
a Small Scale.
5) RM FM Store: Raw material and Finished Material store, the name
itself indicates its feature. The store had two parts one consisted of Raw
materials required for production purposes and the second one was to
store the material that was being produced by the production department
and ready to dispatch.
6) Effluent Treatment Plant: Effluent Treatment Plant also known as
zero liquid discharge. The function of this plant is to recycle the waste
generated by the production plant and reuse the water as per standard.
And to dispose of nonrecyclable (Hazardous) waste at the MPCB waste
management Plant.

Findings :

 This Industrial visit is very helpful in our future practical Life & bring
a positive change in our thinking & practical behavior regarding
Education & specializing our technical skills.
 Got practical knowledge about the advancement in technology of
machines.
 Got knowledge about the Management of manpower and machines.
 Got Knowledge about industrial safety.

Infrastructure
 State-of-the-art R&D, Kilo Laboratory and Analytical Development
Laboratory at Mahape, Navi Mumbai, India.
 Process Development Laboratory and Pilot Plant at Mahad,
Maharashtra, India.

Activities
 Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO)
 Contract Research Organisation (CRO) projects.
 Aastrid is the preferred choice of top multinational companies for
challenging projects.

CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility)


CSR activities are an extension of our culture at Aastrid Lifesciences which
is built up around compassion and empathy.

Health care in remote areas


The first free vaccination camp was conducted in Adivasi areas of Mahad,
Maharashtra, India for protection against COVID. Record 650 people were
vaccinated in one day.
A second free vaccination camp was conducted in the same area for the
second COVID-19 dose.

Rural development projects


A complete water system consisting of a borewell, water pump, water
tanks, and pipeline was established in a remote Adivasi hamlet in the
Mahad area of Maharashtra, India, where the nearest water source was 2
km away.
Street lighting was provided by establishing electrical poles, cables, and
LED lights in the remote Adivasi hamlet in the Mahad area of Maharashtra,
India.
A waste disposal vehicle was provided to Amshet Village in Mahad,
Maharashtra, India to improve sanitation in the area.

Education to underprivileged
Bicycles were provided to Adivasi students of the school in remote areas
of Mahad, Maharashtra, India, living in areas where transportation is not
available and they have to walk long distances to travel to school. This
reduces the workload on students and increases their attendance.
Two fully furnished classrooms were constructed for Adivasi children's
schools in remote areas of Mahad, Maharashtra, India so that the school
can start higher education for Class XI and XII.
The scholarship was provided to 3 students of the College of Engineering,
Pune to facilitate education to bright students of economically backward
families.

Care for senior citizens


Rations and medicines are provided to an old age home at Koperkhaine,
Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India every month

Visit Objectives
The objective of the industrial visit is to enhance the practical stimulation
and help students gain first-hand information regarding the functioning of
the industry, which presents the students with opportunities to plan,
organize & engage in active learning experiences both inside and outside
the classroom.
1) To interact with the students with actual industry personnel.
2) To make them aware of the industrial procedures required to enter any
company.
3) To experience the working environment in the industry and visualize all
the important Departments in the Industry.
4) Interaction of students with the people of all important departments.
5) To prepare the students for the selection of career paths in different
departments of industry.

Conclusion:
We are thankful to all our faculties for organizing such an Informative
Industrial visit for the development of our practical skills. We got
knowledge of different types of machines used in the chemical industry
and had an opportunity to research them. We hope to get more chances
further to have such an informative & wonderful experience of visiting
different industries.
