1.1) Define Road Safety and Steps to Prevent Road Accidents
Road Safety refers to the measures and methods used to prevent road users from being killed or
seriously injured. This includes pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, vehicle passengers, and
passengers of on-road public transport.

Steps to Prevent Road Accidents:

1. Education and Awareness Campaigns: Promote responsible road behavior through

comprehensive education and awareness campaigns.

2. Strict Law Enforcement: Enforce traffic rules and regulations to discourage dangerous
behavior.

3. Advanced Driver Training: Provide training for drivers to handle various road conditions and
emergencies.

4. Improved Infrastructure: Enhance road design and maintenance to ensure safer travel.

5. Pedestrian and Cyclist Safety: Implement measures to protect vulnerable road users.

6. Speed Limit Control: Enforce speed limits to reduce the risk and severity of accidents.

7. Intersection Management: Improve the design and control of intersections to prevent

collisions.

8. Distracted Driving Laws: Enforce laws against using mobile phones and other distractions
while driving.

9. Seatbelt Enforcement: Ensure all vehicle occupants wear seatbelts.

10. Regular Vehicle Inspections: Conduct regular checks to ensure vehicles are in good
condition.

11. Drunk Driving Prevention: Implement strict laws and checks to prevent driving under the
influence.

12. Smart Traffic Management: Use technology to manage traffic flow and reduce congestion.

13. Strict Helmet Laws: Enforce helmet use for motorcyclists.

14. Public Transportation Enhancement: Improve public transport options to reduce the
number of vehicles on the road.

15. Community Engagement: Involve the community in road safety initiatives.

1.2) Three Heads Under Which Road Signs Are Classified
Road signs are typically classified into three main categories:

1. Regulatory Signs: These signs provide instructions that road users must follow, such as
speed limits, stop signs, and no parking signs.

2. Warning Signs: These signs alert road users to potential hazards or changes in road
conditions ahead, such as sharp turns, pedestrian crossings, and school zones.

3. Guide Signs: These signs provide information about directions, distances, and points of
interest, such as highway markers, exit signs, and rest area signs.

1.3) Causes of Road Accidents

The main causes of road accidents include:

1. Over Speeding: Driving at speeds higher than the legal limit increases the risk of accidents.

2. Drunken Driving: Alcohol impairs judgment and reaction times, leading to accidents.

3. Distractions to Driver: Using mobile phones, eating, or other distractions can lead to loss
of control.

4. Red Light Jumping: Ignoring traffic signals can cause collisions at intersections.

5. Avoiding Safety Gears: Not using seatbelts or helmets increases the severity of injuries in
accidents.

6. Non-adherence to Lane Driving: Changing lanes without signaling or overtaking improperly

can cause accidents.
