Read the article. A
One Woman, Six Jobs!
After finishing high school, Stella Flores needed to get a job, but she wasn’t sure what kind of profession would
be the best for her. After speaking with her parents, Stella knew she wanted to find a job that would inspire her,
a job that she liked. The very next week, Stella began a six-month discovery to find her perfect profession.
She worked six jobs in just six months!

Her first job was working in an elementary school. Stella accompanied a 3rd grade teacher. Although she thinks
kids are cute, Stella knows she’s not patient enough to manage a classroom of 25 eight-year olds!

The second job Stella had was working on a dairy farm. She helped to care for the cows. She fed them,
administered medicine, and operated equipment. She enjoyed being around the animals, but it was really hard
work. She learned a lot about animal care!

Stella’s third job was managing a restaurant. She had a lot of fun working with the people there, but she didn’t
like having to work late at night. She learned how to make schedules, budgets, purchase orders, and she
learned that having a business is a lot of hard work!

For her fourth job, Stella worked with a graphic designer. She thought this was a really cool and independent
job. She liked feeling creative and working from home, but she doesn’t really have any design skills.

In the fifth month, Stella worked with an advertising agency. This was really fun. She liked working with the
marketing team. She learned a lot about promoting brands on social media. She has great computer and
networking skills, so it was kind of easy!

In her final month, Stella worked in a hospital with a nurse in an emergency room. This was very interesting!
She liked caring for the patients and the adrenaline she got during busy times, but Stella needs to get certified
to be a nurse. Also, she wasn’t sure she wanted to work at night.

In what order did Stella do each job? What are the pros and cons? Complete the chart. B

A More Productive To-Do List
To-do lists can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Read these tips to make sure your to-do lists make
you more productive and aren’t overwhelming or unrealistic.
Tip #1: Identify the three most important tasks.
Once you have finished writing your to-do list, identify the three most important tasks. Make these three tasks
your priority. Don’t fall into the trap of completing the easy tasks just for the satisfaction of crossing them off
your list.
Tip #2: Include the time.
When making your to-do list, include the time you estimate each task will take. Will you be able to do all your
tasks today? What tasks can you do during your lunch break? Make sure you’re realistic with the time estimate.
Tip #3: Review your list at the start and end of the day.
At the end of every day, evaluate your list. What were you able to accomplish? Cross it off! What do you have to
prioritize for tomorrow? Organize and add to your list each night. In the morning, review your list and prepare for
the day.
Tip #4: Create a “to-don’t” list.
When you create your to-do list, also create a list of things you shouldn’t do or don’t need to do. For example,
“Don’t answer phone calls during meetings.” or “Don’t start the report until Tuesday.” or “Don’t eat a heavy
lunch.” Avoiding these things will help you focus on the tasks that you have to complete.
Tip#5: Make it digital.
In today’s modern world, your to-do list doesn’t have to be pen and paper. There are many apps that help you
create virtual to-do lists. You can include deadlines, multiple tasks, color coding, and much more. You can even
set up alerts and alarms. These are simple and usually free to use on any smartphone, so you’re able to take
your to-do list with you everywhere you go!
