1.0 Brief Description :

Forests are like Earth's life-support systems, and they're incredibly important. The
aim is to create a report which is all about why cutting down forests, known as
deforestation, is a big problem for biodiversity.
Biodiversity is like a giant puzzle made of all the different life forms on our planet,
from plants and animals to tiny creatures. Forests are a major piece of this puzzle
because they're home to so many species. But when we chop down forests, we take
away these homes, and that's bad news for nature.
In the report, we'll explore why deforestation matters, what it does to biodiversity,
and how it affects people.

2.0 Aim Of The Micro-Project:

Create a report on Impact of Deforestation on Biodiversity

3.0 Course Outcome Addressed :

1. Develop Public awareness about environment

2. Conserve Ecosystem and Biodiversity
3. Manage social issues and Environmental Ethics as lifelong learning

4.0 Actual Methodology Followed:

 Firstly, a suggestion was taken from course coordinator and also the student creating
the project provided suggestion on the topic and suggestions about the topic from both
were encouraged.
 The topic was divided into several modules. Then each and every module was assigned
the time duration for completion.
 A through research was done on the modules specified to the course coordinator which
included all the key concepts related to each module of the micro project.
 All the modules were perfectly arranged into the specified format and all the
errors/mistakes committed were resolved.
 Finally, the copy will be submitted to the concerned course coordinator.

The Impact of Deforestation on Biodiversity

Introduction

Deforestation, which means cutting down forests on purpose, is really bad for all
the different living things on Earth. This report is about why deforestation is such
a problem for biodiversity. We'll explain how forests are like homes to many
species and how deforestation messes up nature. We'll also talk about how this can
affect people and suggest ways to make it better.

This picture shows a forest from above, so you can see how big and important it is.
We need to understand why forests matter so much to life on Earth.

Biodiversity is like a big puzzle with lots of different pieces, and forests are a huge
piece of it. They are home to many different plants and animals, and when we cut
them down, we're taking away those homes.
Impact on Biodiversity

1. Habitat Destruction

[Image 2: Before and After Deforestation]

This picture shows how an area looks before and after deforestation. It helps us
see how cutting down forests destroys the homes of many species.

Deforestation means getting rid of forests and turning the land into farms, cities, or
buildings. This means many species lose their homes, especially those that can only
live in specific forests. They're in danger of disappearing forever.

2. Disruption of Ecological Processes

This diagram shows how forests do important things like clean the air and control
the weather. When we cut down forests, these things get messed up.
Forests do more than just provide homes; they help balance nature. They clean the
air, control temperature, and recycle nutrients. Deforestation messes up these jobs,
leading to weird weather, poor soil, and problems for many living things.

3. Loss of Biodiversity

This graph shows how biodiversity goes down when forests are cut down and
proper measures are not taken for sustainability. It's important to see how
deforestation causes species to disappear.

When we cut down forests, we also cut down the number of plants and animals that
can live there. This hurts biodiversity because when one species disappears, it can
affect others that rely on it for food or other things.
4. Increased Vulnerability to Invasive Species

This image shows how new species can come in after forests are cut down.
Sometimes, these new species can be troublemakers, hurting the native ones.
(Invasive Species: an organism that is not indigenous, or native, to a particular
area. Invasive species can cause great economic and environmental harm to the
new area.

When we clear forests, it's easier for new plants and animals to move in. Sometimes
these newcomers are bullies and push out the native species. This is bad because it
reduces biodiversity even more.

5. Impact on Endangered Species

This photo shows an endangered animal in its forest home. Cutting down forests
makes it harder for them to survive.
Many animals, like the Sumatran tiger or the orangutan, are already having a tough
time surviving. When we destroy their forest homes, it makes their situation even
worse. They become even more endangered and closer to disappearing forever.

Consequences for Human Society

The impact of deforestation doesn't just hurt nature; it also affects people:

1. Loss of Ecosystem Services:

This image helps us see how forests provide important services.

Forests give us services like clean air, clean water, and protection from disasters
like floods. When we cut them down, we lose these helpful services.

2. Economic Implications:

Many people depend on forests for their jobs and money. When we cut down
forests without thinking, it can hurt these people and their families.

3. Climate Change:

[Image 8: Climate Change Effects Image]

This image shows how deforestation can make climate change worse.
Cutting down forests adds more heat-trapping gases to our atmosphere, which
makes climate change worse. This can lead to problems like droughts, floods, and
problems with where people can live.

How to Fix It

We can do things to make the situation better:

1. Protecting Special Areas:

We can create special places where nature is safe from harm, like parks and wildlife
reserves.

2. Planting More Trees:

This picture shows people planting new trees to make forests healthy again.

We can grow new trees and bring back forests where they've been destroyed.

3. Cutting Trees Responsibly:

When we need wood, we can do it in a way that doesn't harm the forest too much.

4. Working with Communities:

We can include local communities in the decision-making to help protect the

forests.
5. Making Good Rules:

Governments can make rules to stop illegal cutting of trees and protect forests.

6. Thinking About Our Choices:

We can buy products that come from forests that are treated well and responsibly.

Conclusion

This image reminds us to protect our planet's biodiversity.

Deforestation is a big problem because it hurts biodiversity and has bad effects on
people too. But if we work together and make better choices, we can help protect
our planet's amazing variety of life for the future.
