NEWSPAPER REPORT

JOURNAL

Deshel Levines Fernandas, & Shailashri V.T

December, 2 ,2022
Hindustan Unilever Limited is a leading company that manufactures fast-moving
consumer goods. HUL's role is vital in meeting the essential product needs of rural
consumers essential. HUL was the first company to reach rural consumers and generate
demand for mass consumer goods in rural markets. Despite various obstacles in
reaching rural customers due to the lack of infrastructure and communication facilities,
the company has done a great job of reaching rural consumers.

HUL initiated to reach rural customers through various projects and strategies
including the Shakthi Project, a great initiative that focused not only on customer
satisfaction but also on the empowerment of the rural population, especially women
and. Through this project, the company has been able to benefit society through its
corporate social responsibility initiatives as well as other programs to protect the
environment. In addition to increasing the company's sales, the project also resulted in
the rural women becoming independent and self-reliant. Through this project, many
women have been encouraged to become self-employed, resulting in improved living
standards and financial stability for rural households. Initially, it was a tough task for
the company because the effort required to implement the project was comparatively
high than that of other projects.

Most of the population in India lives in the villages and the population of these
villages is widely dispersed. Due to the dispersal of the population, marketers have
difficulty reaching rural consumers. There are several reasons like lack of
infrastructure, communication facilities, lack of mediat awareness, etc. that prevent
companies from taking the initiative to reach rural markets. Despite these rural
9

marketing obstacles, most companies have made great efforts to reach rural consumers.
Among the companies, Hindustan Unilever Limited, which was earlier known as
Hindustan Lever Limited, featured prominently as one of the first companies to reach
rural consumers and create demand for its products in the FMCG sector .

Hindustan Unilever Limited generate half of its business and income from areas.
Because most of the products of HUL are sold in more than three lakh villages with
3000 to 6000 inhabitants. In the late 1990s, with increasing competition, the company
realized the need for strengthening its distribution network in order to increase its
market share. HUL, identified many other villages, but the challenge was to reach those
villages in remote parts of India. Since these villages were sparsely populated, it was
difficult to maintain a daily-based distribution network. With millions of potential
customers, HUL was unable to reach them due to poor road conditions, transportation,
lack of advertising coverage, and lack of a retail distribution network.

Additionally, the company started to create awareness on health and hygiene

matters in order to attract customers to the products. HUL products were completely
new products to most of rural communities. Therefore, the company saw the need for
a new type of distribution network. Hindustan Lever found a solution in the form of
Project Shakti (meaning strength in Sanskrit). The company decided to merge and work
with various self-help groups so that the company could achieve its target without any
delay and save the women from the exploitations of the money lenders .

Project Shakti started in November 2000 in the Nalgonda district in Andhra Pradesh
with 50 SHGs in 50 villages and 1,000 to 2,000 participants. This project was initiated
to create a market for the product and also to work towards the betterment of rural
regions. This project was a win-win partnership between HUL and rural self-help
groups (SHG), which are mainly composed of illiterate women.

3) TOPIC – Tesla Company

PRESENTED BY – Gayathri Fernandas S

DATE OF PRESENTATION – 28-11-2023

Tesla, Inc. is an American multinational automotive and clean energy company

headquartered in Austin, Texas, which designs and manufactures electric vehicles (cars
and trucks), stationary battery energy storage devices from home to grid-scale, solar
panels and solar shingles, and related products and services. Its subsidiary Tesla Energy
develops and is a major installer of photovoltaic systems in the United States and is
one of the largest global suppliers of battery energy storage systems with 6.5 gigawatt-
hours (GWh) installed in 2022.

Tesla is one of the biggest names in the world. It is widely known for being one of the
most successful manufacturers of electric vehicles. Although Tesla is closely linked to
the hugely successful Elon Musk, he was not the original founder of the company. So,
let's take a look at who founded Tesla and what role Musk played. The idea behind the
founding of Tesla was simple: it was created by engineers who wanted to change the
way that cars were made. These two engineers - Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning
- founded the company on July 1, 2003. It was originally called Tesla Motors and had
a much different logo to the logo it has today. Today, the company continues to sell
electric vehicles and is known for its success in this area. However, thanks to
acquisitions and its own production and innovation, Tesla has become more involved
in the area of clean energy production and storage, including batteries.

GROUP DISCUSSION
TOPIC : IS IQ MORE IMPORTANT THAN EQ ?

IQ - Intelligent Quotient. Which contain: analytical thought logic, memory,

hyperactivity, concentration, risk, politics, competency, and technical skills.

EQ - Emotional Quotient. Which contain: holistic thought, empathy, art, music,

awareness, motivation, hopes, fear, emotion, soft skills, belief, behaviors, sacrifice,
discipline, and dedication.

IQ measures the ability of a person to think logically and also solve new problems with
innovative ideas. IQ can be somewhat increased by practice. EQ defines how a person
is able to manage his/her own emotions and also understand other's emotions.

You need to have a brilliant IQ to become a good engineer, but to be a leader of

engineer your EQ is more important rather than IQ. It's different to go ahead with one.
I think they are complementary to each other.

A person should have EQ like 2/3 ICE in the ocean & 1/3 ICE above water level. So
we can understand from this what we see & what we don't see but need to hold space
for."EQ + IQ = SUCCESS".

There are many examples to understand if one of them is not there then the person is
not ideal like Sheldon Cooper from 'Big Bang Theory' has IQ of 187 but a very low
EQ level so that's why his coworkers don't like them.

Osama-bin-laden is a great example to understand that a person with a great ability to

think is not sufficient, he should have some EQ too.Next, chimpanzees, dolphins,
crows, and elephants have more IQ than humans so EQ is one of the factors which
differentiates us from animals.
20

There should be a balance between EQ-IQ because some of the decisions we cannot
make by emotions and some not take by the brain every path of life we should have a
proper balance between them.

Every successful man maintains a level between them. You might not make any
decision with only one of the EQ or IQ. Many companies are looking for an employee
who has both of them So they conduct aptitude tests as well as psychometric tests.

IQ is something we can increase by learning and practising things and help to overcome
the problem we face in our day-to-day life.EQ helps to maintain our calm and gives a
clearance about the goal which we have in our mind and if we manage it correctly it
play important role in achieving that.

So, IQ and EQ both should be balanced and maintained for pursuit in life and get a
better understanding, and clearance, to always move forward.

IQ stands for Intelligence quotient. It is measure of ability of a person to think logically

and also to solve new problems with innovative ideas. IQ can be some what increased
by practice.EQ stands for Emotional Quotient. It defines how a person is able to
manage his or her own emotions and also understand others emotions.

IQ and EQ both are the most important one but IQ is the most important one compare
with EQ because it takes correct decisions at the correct time and IQ also control
emotions and decisions and whatever we need so EQ is part of IQ so focus on your IQ
and do well.
