Logging In/Out
A user logs in by tapping the Log In/Out icon on the toolbar. When tapped, the user is
presented with the login screen as shown in Figure 6 and prompted to enter their credentials.
Each user is assigned with a unique three-digit user ID with a default password pin of 0000.
When a user logs in the first time,
• It is mandatory to enter the unique User ID followed by the default PIN (0000), and then
tap the check mark.
For example, if the User ID is 001 then enter the first-time login PIN as 0010000.
• The user is then presented with having to change the default PIN.
• Enter the password PIN (minimum of 4 to maximum of 7 digits) to set the new private
password PIN.
• Once a user is logged in, tap on the Home screen will open the Device Tiles screen.
A user can change the password PIN by logging in with current PIN and tapping “CHANGE PIN”
on the toolbar. A logged in user can choose to log out by tapping the Log In/Out icon on the
toolbar. If a logged in user remains idle for 300 seconds (5 minutes), the display will
automatically log out the user and return to the home screen. The 300 seconds (5 minutes),
auto-logout time is a fixed time and not adjustable.
Admin User: When you log in with the Admin User ID PIN 000 and Admin User Password PIN,
you have full access to all tiles and the Admin Settings Menu. When logged in as the Admin
User, the auto-logout feature is disabled. You must log out manually.

Device Tiles
Logged in users can access the Device Tiles by tapping on the Home button on toolbar as
shown in Figure 7. Data points presented on a Device Tile are read-only.
Each Device Tile represents a specified BACnet device. Tapping on a Device Tile takes the
user to a Point Tile Template. The ability for a user to access Point Tiles is dependent on a
user’s Access Level being equal to or greater than the Access Level setting of the Device Tile.
Point Tiles
AlerView enables users to view the Point Tiles configured for a device by using Device Tiles.
A Point Tile represents an AI/AO/AV value or a BI/BO/BV state; presented as read-only or
modifiable. The ability for a user to modify a Point Tile is dependent on a user’s Access Level
being equal to or greater than the Access Level setting of the Point Tile. For more details, refer
the AlerView Configuration and Setup Guide (31-00327) on Alerton Support Network (ASN).
Point Tiles that can be modified have two or three buttons as mentioned below, that provide the
following functionality.
Analog Point Tiles
Analog Point Tiles that represent an AV without a priority array have an up button and a down
button as shown in Setpoint High Limit point tile of Figure 8, which when tapped will increment
31-00328-03

Alerview User Operation Guide
or decrement the value. Once either button is tapped, a queue is established to track any
subsequent taps so that a single write request that encapsulates the difference in changes is
sent after an idle state of 1.5 seconds.
Figure 8. Analog (Top row: AI, AV, AO) and Binary (Bottom row: BI, BV, BO) Point Tile
Analog Point Tiles that represent an AO or an AV with a priority array have three buttons: an up
button, a down button, and a null button as shown in Economizer OA Damper point tile of
Figure 8 above. The up/down buttons increment/decrement the value as described above. The
null button will relinquish control to automatic. The null button can be customized to show
alternative text instead of being blank. A highlighted null button indicates a commanded null
state, i.e. automatic. A null button not highlighted indicates a manual commanded state, i.e.
manual operator value.
Users can access additional Point Tile screen by swiping right to left on the screen. Multiple
screens of Point Tiles are indicated by the number of dots located at the bottom of the display
screen; pressing on any dot will jump the user to that screen.
If communication with a device is lost or not available, data on the Point Tile appears as "NR".
If the Point Tile has been misconfigured, e.g. data point does not exist or is not supported,
"Error" is displayed as the text where the value of the Point Tile would normally be displayed.

Reading of Data
Device Tiles and Point Tiles will show status of data availability. After setup and loading of the
Device Configuration, the AlerView initiates communication with the system to identify all the
devices on the network and request a reading of present values. During this period, data points
on the Home screen, Device Tiles, and Point Tiles will display "Waiting...".
A data point on the Home screen, Device Tiles, and Point Tiles is deemed unresponsive if it
does not provide a response to a request after 18 seconds, i.e. APDU timeout is 6000ms with a
Retry count of 3 – the APDU and Retry settings are fixed and cannot be adjusted.
Data points on the Home screen, Device Tiles, and Point Tiles show "NR" as the value when a
point is un-responsive.
NOTE: All actions that can be performed on a point tile are disabled when the
point is in either one of the above states.

AUDIT LOGGING
All changes made by users are tracked in a log file maintained in an internal storage directory. A
log file is created for each month of the year for a total of 12 files which then begin to rollover
starting with the earliest date inferred from the value of the file name pattern (audit-log-YYYY-
MMMM).
The logs entries can be separated into two categories: 1) system changes, which are any edits
to configuration data; and 2) point changes, which are modifications to a commandable point.
Every log entry contains the following information:
• User ID
• Timestamp (YYYY-MM-dd hh:mm-ss a)
• Action performed (e.g. Reloaded Configuration File, Updated Admin PIN)
Log entries for point modifications also contain these additional fields:
• Old value
• New value
• Device instance
• Object Instance
• Object type
All system logs and point logs can be viewed from the View System Logs option from
application settings. For more details, refer View System Logs section.
