The Simple Present Tense

Uses

The Simple Present Tense is used for:

 Everyday activities, routines, and habits: I eat breakfast every morning.


 Unchanging emotions and wishes: I love pizza.
 General truths: The sun rises in the east.
 Giving instructions or directions: Turn left at the next corner.
 Expressing fixed arrangements: The train arrives at 10:00 AM.
 Telling a story: Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Alice.

Formation

 Positive Sentences:
o Subject + Verb (base form) + Object (if applicable)
o Example: I eat breakfast every morning.
 Negative Sentences:
o Subject + do/does + not + Verb (base form) + Object (if applicable)
o Example: She does not play the piano.
 Interrogative Sentences:
o do/does + Subject + Verb (base form) + Object (if applicable)
o Example: Does he live in New York?
 Third Person Singular: For "he," "she," or "it," add -s or -es to the verb in positive
sentences. Use "does" with the third person singular in negative and interrogative
sentences.
