This report is about my internship at Vodafone Ghana from 11 th September to 24th

November, 2023. I considered Vodafone Ghana for my semester out internship program after
a careful consideration as it is one of the prominent and reputable organization to work with.

congratulated me and invited me the next day to come for induction; he gave me brief
introduction of the organization and its policies.

In the first week, I learnt the various rules and regulation, observed how the workers
performed their task during working hours. Also, my supervisor grouped my college’s and I

CHAPTER ONE

1.1 INTRODUCTION

In line with the drastic educational reforms that undertook in the 1990’s, the Government of
Ghana decided to establish a technical institution in each of the ten regions. these institutions
are supported to fill the gap in the supply chain of highly qualified middle level manpower.
They had been granted tertiary status and are running fulltime tertiary programs in various
fields. The programs are highly competitive and their programs are well organized in both
academic and industrial arena.

A key characteristic of all technical universities in Ghana is that, they are generally state
owned, hence operates similar policies. This industrial attachment aims at broadening the
knowledge and understanding of theoretical education as well as enhancing practical training
for undergraduate students to prepare them better for the competition ahead. Like many other
departments in the faculty of Applied Sciences, Computer Science Department, also ensures
students obtain industrial skills in recognized companies in other to achieve the necessary
skills required.

Moreover, this will help students adequately or thoroughly to work very effectively after the
completion of the training. It is hoped that after completion of the training, relevant skills will
be acquired.

1.2 Objectives of the Industrial Training

As part of the essential requirement leading to the awarding of the Bachelor of Information
Technology certificate, it is advisable to undertake an industrial attachment in any recognized
company or firm in the country to gain more experience. The objectives of the industrial
attachment are as follows:

 It forms part of students’ credit hours and therefore students must participate to secure
the competition of their credit hours.
 It helps students familiarize themselves with technicalities of the programs of study
and the task awaiting them as they look on their career.
 It helps students become very experienced on the operating principles and the work
carried out using particular tools.
 It helps students learn about the norms and values governing the various companies.
 It aids students to rectify problems easily after the industrial attachment.
 It enables students become more tolerant as they interact with different people both
adults and colleagues.

6
 It also impacts a lot of skills in students which enables them to use their initiative
when they are employed in the job market.
 Students get exposed to the business world outside the lecture halls to enable them to
face some of the difficulties which would one day be encountered after completion of
their courses. This exposure equips the students with the confidence they will need to
face their future careers.

I hereby present the report on industrial attachment training I undertook at Vodafone Ghana

CHAPTER THREE

3.1 CONTRIBUTION OF STUDENT TO THE ORGANIZATION

 Reduction In the Work Load: my presence in the workshop reduced the workload
because time spent on the job was reduced, thereby increasing productivity.

 Improving Teamwork: teamwork in the organization got improved because my

presence at the workshop sealed a lot of holes with respect to teamwork in the work
premises specifically where I was assigned to get better as compared to what I met
when I started the attachment.

 Sensible and fair suggestions made: During my Attachment period at the Vodafone
Ghana, I was able to contribute positively to the growth of the organization.

3.2 Challenges Encountered

I would account it was a very advantageous for anyone who involved in the industrial
internship at an institution whose daily activities are practically portending to the theoretical
field of study.

During this attachment, I was confronted with a lot of challenges which affects my ability to
comprehend with some teachings I had.

Basically, since we were not introduced to the practical firm program, I lacked a lot of
technical language for communication. Also, my ability to acknowledge the right tool for a
specific task was another challenge.

16
3.3 New Knowledge or Skills Acquired

During the eleven weeks I spent at Vodafone Ghana, I acquired new knowledge and skills
that helped build my self-confidence and also would help build a better career life. Some of
these skills attained are stated below:

 Effective communication skills: Knowledge acquired in communication skills helped

me to convey messages and listen effectively to the people I interacted with. I have
learned that to be able to communicate effectively with the targeted audience, one
needs to understand their background. Understanding the background of your
audience helps you to choose the right message and the medium to use to convey the
message. I was, therefore, able to communicate effectively with people at all levels.

 Work with little or no supervision: During my internship at Vodafone Ghana, I was

able to learn sim card registrations, termination of patch cord and how to configure a
router very effectively.

 Time Management: Having learned in school that time management is of paramount

importance in human life, I was able to work effectively. I was always punctual at
work and tried my maximum best to complete all work assigned to me on time.

 Interpersonal Relations: I applied knowledge and skills acquired in school on how to

relate well with people in the workplace. From experience acquired through group
assignments and presentations, I was able to work with other staff of the Assembly
and other colleagues and share my ideas.

3.4 Achievements

At the end of my attachment period, I was able to get over my challenge and thus get along
with other student trainees which whom I worked with them and shared ideas.

I was also able to gather some necessary lessons that will help me in my end of semester at
school which would help me to better understand a course like Computer Science and
Networking as a whole.

17
3.5 General Comments, Observations, and Impressions

3.5.1 Comments

From all point of view, I can confirm that the industrial training program inculcates a lot of
knowledge and experience in the students and it enables them to use their initiative when they
are employed in any field of work. It also gives them a general knowledge about the program
of study.

I hope all technical universities will continue to enforce the training to promote and produce
more creative inspirers in art.

3.5.2 Observations

I would say that industrial training is a ground for students to blend their programs of study.
Besides my normal learning, I observed a lot of their characteristics of the organization.
Below are my observations at Vodafone;

 The workers of Vodafone Ghana were cordial with the students on attachment.

 Vodafone Ghana is abreast with their working time and always fully prepared for any
action and issuing of orders especially when any student wants to flout any regulation
governing the office.

 The senior trainees of Vodafone Ghana were ready to listen and explain to all
students who had questions about various works they participated in.

 My supervisor is a very skilled and talented man in the field of networking and
telecommunication services, very tolerant and humble which made it possible for him
to live with all students on industrial training.

3.5.3 Impressions

I was so impressed by how the workers come together to work as one and also how one can
take over if staff is absent despite, they performing different work altogether.

18
CHAPTER FOUR

4.1 Conclusions

My attachment period with Vodafone Ghana was an educative and interesting one. I
appreciate my industry-based supervisor and all trainees of Vodafone Ghana for the
opportunity granted me to acquire more skills in addition to the theory learnt in school.

The dignity of labor is not what you do, but how you do it. Whatever the task and wherever
you are placed on the corporate ladder, perform your tasks with dignity. Let your light shine
everywhere you find yourself, even in the darkest tunnel. This and many more are what I
have to adhere to for success.

4.2 Recommendations

Due to the experience, I gained at Vodafone Ghana, I am urging all students to take a
yardstick and be dedicated to industrial training not focusing on the allowance the company
will give but see the attachment program as a gateway to better their lives.

To add to few, I also wish that lectures must have the most influence on students to educate
them on the benefits of industrial attachment.

I hereby recommend Vodafone Ghana for students who would like to have their training in
the field of Networking and Telecommunications and also for the general public who would
like to have the fastest internet, best data entry and communications done because it is one of
the best and reputable network Ghana.
