2. Requirements
You have already registered via www.meindaad.de and therefore have been given an indi-
vidual user ID for the DAAD application portal. Should this not be the case, see manual sec-
tion "01 Registration" on instructions regarding this step.
You cannot use an account that you already use/have used in the Personal Funding area to
submit an application in the Project Funding area. In this case, please use a different email
address to register for a new account. It must differ from all other email addresses specified
in the portal.
Please note that only one account can be used to submit an application. This means that
even saved application drafts can only be viewed and edited via one account. Only after
submission of the project proposal will all users linked to the project be able to view the da-
ta in parallel and become actively involved.
3. Procedure
Click "Project Funding" in the portal's navigation bar to start an application in the Project
Funding area. Then select the "Project Application" category. The selected area will be un-
derlined.
After that please select the "Zielland" (Target country) by clicking the downward pointing ar-
rowhead in the "Zielland" (Target country) field. Now you can select one of the target coun-
tries listed in alphabetical order.
You can then specify whether you are submitting your application as a "Projektverantwort-
licher" (Project manager) or on behalf of a project manager as a so-called "Projektassistenz"
(Project assistant).
If you as the applicant have inherent project responsibility, you can indicate this here. Once
you have read and accepted the "Datenschutzbestimmungen" (Data Privacy Statement) you
can click "Weiter" (Continue) to start the application.
Note that the DAAD application portal provides project assistants with virtually the same au-
thorisations as project managers. The only aspect reserved for project managers themselves
is the option of introducing or removing project assistants.
Should you apply as a "Projektassistenz" (Project assistant), you need to specify who bears
responsibility for the project:
If you are already known to the portal as a project assistant for at least one project owned by
the project manager relating to the current application, then select the option "einen der fol-
genden Projektverantwortlichen" (one of the following Project managers).
A selection line with a drop-down menu will appear. You can use this to select the relevant
project manager.
If this is your first application via the portal, or if you have not yet been involved in the DAAD
application portal as a project assistant for the corresponding project manager, please select
"einen neuen Projektverantwortlichen" (a new Project manager).
A field will appear in which you can enter the new project manager's email address. Then click
on "Prüfen" (Review).
The project manager must already be registered in the DAAD application portal and have
visited the portal before you can make an application as project assistant.
The portal will provide corresponding feedback if the project manager cannot be found un-
der the specified email address because they have not yet registered, or their user ID/email
address is incorrect.
An application submitted by a project assistant requires the form "Bestätigung der Projektas-
sisten" (Confirmation of a Project assistant) to be included as an attachment with the applica-
tion. It must be signed by the project manager. Please accordingly print out our template and
scan the signed form as a PDF document.
You can download this template either directly after determining yourself a project assistant
on the application (see image above "Link zum Dokument") or in the "Hilfe Center" (Help
Center) during submission of the application (via the question mark )
Next accept the "Datenschutzbestimmungen" (Data Privacy Statements) and transmit your
previous entries by clicking "Weiter" (Continue) on the bottom right.
This will take you to the "Projektantrag starten" (Create a Project application) page.
This area is subdivided into multiple tabs: "Projekt" (Project), "Finanzierungsplan" (Financing
Plan), "Anlagen" (Attachments) and "Antragsbedingungen" (Conditions of Submission).
The portal indicates which tab you are currently in by the current tab being underlined in
each case.
You can select the individual steps manually at any time by clicking the respective tab.
Please only select the portal buttons to navigate within the portal. Never use your browser's
navigation buttons.
Use the "Projekt" (Project) tab to select the "Projektantrag" (Project application) sub-tab and
enter the basic data regarding your project.
Please note when filling out your application that the fields with a grey background can-
not be amended. The white fields are active, and you can or rather must provide input
into them.
Fields with an * in front of them are mandatory fields and must therefore be filled in com-
pletely. The project application cannot subsequently be submitted if this is not the case.
Please only tick the "Wiederbewerbung" (Reapplication) box if you are submitting a new ap-
plication in the same funding programme after a rejected initial application.
Select the "Förderbeginn" (Funding start date) and the "Förderende" (Funding end date) or
enter them in the format DD/MM/YYYY. Please note that both dates must be in the future.
Use the downward pointing arrowhead to select the "Fächergruppe" (Subject group).
You will only be offered subject groups that are legitimate in the context of this funding
programme.
Please then enter your institution's bank details. Note that only German bank details will be
accepted here.
If you wish to specify an international credit institution, please tick the "Konto nicht
vorhanden" (Account not available/international bank details) box provided for this purpose
and use the portal notification function to send your bank details to your advisor. The notifi-
cation function is available to you as soon as you have successfully submitted the project ap-
plication.
On the right-hand side, please enter the data relating to the applicant institution.
Start by using the downward pointing arrowhead to select the "Stadt" (Town/City). You
can use the scroll bar to select your town/city. The search can be speeded up by using the
The head of the institution will automatically be displayed once the mandatory fields
regarding the applicant institution are filled in.
If the displayed details regarding the head of the institution are no longer current, please
feel free to suggest a correction via email to kontaktdaten@daad.de.
Should yours be an institution that is not shown in the selection list, or is located outside
Germany, please tick the box "andere/ausländische Institution" (other/international institu-
tion).
You can now manually enter the data relating to your institution and head of the institution.
The downward pointing arrowhead displays the selection options in the respective fields.
Now use the "Projektverantwortlicher" (Project manager) sub-tab to enter contact details for
the project manager, unless they are already preallocated.
If you are submitting the application as a project assistant, two scenarios are possible:
a) The project assistant has already worked with the project manager:
in this case the data relating to the project manager will be automatically inserted based on
the applications already received and cannot be changed (grey fields).
If you have previously been active in the DAAD application portal, your data will be preallo-
cated in the "Projektassistenz" (Project assistant) sub-tab. This data cannot be amended.
If you have not previously been active in the DAAD application portal as a project manager
or project assistant, you will have to enter your contact details.
If you are submitting the application as the project manager, the "Projektassistenz" (Project
assistant) sub-tab is not available at this point. Please note the respective requirements for
setting up a project assistant.
The "Projektpartner" (Project partner) sub-tab gives you the option of entering your project
partners. Please activate the input function by clicking the "neuen Partner anlegen" (Create a
new partner) button.
You can then enter the data in the newly opened pop-up window.
There are three selection options for "Art des Partners" (Type of partner): "Partner Inland"
(Partner in Germany), "Drittmittelgeber" (Third-party funder) and "Partner Ausland" (Interna-
tional partner).
Click the downward pointing arrowhead at the end of the field . This opens the related
drop-down menu.
Once the input is correct, click the "Anlegen" (Create) button. You will now see an overview
of the partners you created. At this point you can also delete or edit the entries.
This completes the "Projekt" (Project) element of the application. Clicking the "Finanzier-
ungsplan" (Financing plan) sub-tab takes you to the next step of the application.
If you need to interrupt the application process, you can temporarily save the data already
entered as an online draft. To do this, click " Entwurf sichern" (Save draft) in the function bar.
Once you have saved your draft, you will receive a confirmation.
The previously greyed out and inactive "Entwurf laden" (Load draft) button is now active and
coloured blue.
After leaving the portal and logging in again, you have the option of retrieving your saved
draft and continuing to edit it.
Please accordingly navigate to the "Projektantrag" (Project application) category. You can
now access your started applications via the "Entwurfdaten" (Draft data) table. To do so,
