Soundness of Cement by Le-Chatelier Method
Result
Mean of two values to the nearest 0.5 mm to represent the
mm
expansion of cement.
Report
Expansion of cement (Soundness), nearest to 0.5 mm mm
*The temperature of the moulding room, dry materials and water shall be maintained at 27 ± 2°C and the
relative humidity of the laboratory shall be 65 ±5 percent.
The moist closet or moist room shall be maintained at 27 ±2°C and at a relative humidity of not less than 90
percent.
#
Cement paste formed by gauging cement with 0.78 times water of its standard consistency (gauged as per IS :
4031 -Part 4) filled in lightly oiled moulds, covered by two glass plates from both sides then placed in water at
a temperature of 27 ±2℃ and kept there for 24 hours.
Distance separating indicator points measured to the nearest 0.5 mm (A).
¥
Moulds submerged again in water at the temperature prescribed above. Water brought to boiling, with the
mould kept submerged, in 25 to 30 minutes, and kept it boiling for three hours.
Moulds were removed from water, allowed to cool, then distance was measured between indicator points (B).
