96M11655 ■ Precautions for piping

Do not install in locations used as footholds.

Colioris Type Digital Flow Sensor 1. Do not install in locations where strong piping stress, such as strong
compressive force, tensile force, load, or axial shift, are applied during or

FD-S Series typeA after installation. The operation may become unstable when too much
stress or force is applied.
2. Mount the joint mounting hexagonal screw with a tool when mounting
the joints. It may cause a damage when the main unit is held by a
Instruction Manual tool or a hand.
3. Make sure that sealing tape or adhesive agents do not protrude from
the threaded portion of the piping.
4. Install the flow regulating valve or its equivalent to the downstream
side of the sensor.
5. We recommend that you provide a maintenance space around the
FD-S Series to facilitate maintenance work.
6. Do not install to a piping system that receives impact pressure.
7. When there is any oil or foreign matter in the pipes, clean them
before installing the sensor.
8. When piping expands thermally, release the stress using a method
such as bending the pipes to properly arrange the system.
9. Do not install in a location exposed to intense light, such as direct
sunlight, or radiation from a heat source.
10. Do not install in a location where it may become submerged.
11. Install in a location with little vibration. Fasten the piping as close to the
main unit when installing.

Failure to follow instructions may lead to death or serious injury.

■ Other precautions

Failure to follow instructions may lead to injury. 1. The power ON reset time is 10 seconds after power is turned on. Do
not use outputs from the sensor during this period.
2. Initial drift may occur after the power is turned on. To detect a minute
difference in the flow rate, let it warm up for approximately 15 to 30
Failure to follow instructions may lead to product damage, such as product minutes.
malfunctions. 3. Do not bring a strong magnet or magnetic field close to the main unit.
4. Clean and dry the water flow section when relocating the FD-S Series
after passing water. In addition, when returning the unit to KEYENCE
Note Provides additional information on proper operations that can be easily mistaken. for such purposes as an inspection, clean and dry the water flow
section before returning and make sure to report the type of the fluid
to the responsible salesperson.

■ Precautions for wiring
1. Do not modify or perform unnecessary disassembly. It may cause
electric shock, malfunction, or damage.
2. Do not perform wiring with bare hands. It may cause electric shock
because there is charge even after the power is turned off.
3. Do not perform tubing or wiring with wet hands. It may cause electric
shock.
4. Check the color of the wires when wiring.
5. Use within the rating range. This product is a sensor that uses a DC
(direct current) power source. Do not apply alternating current or
other power supplies. Do not use a load that exceeds the allowable
limit.

1. Use an insulated stabilizing supply for the power supply.

2. Do not apply excessive tensile force to the cable.
3. Ensure that the cable tip is not submersed in water during the wiring.

(1) Measurement pipe is not filled with fluid or there is a bubble
(2) Overcurrent is flowing in the control output
(3) Reverse flow of fluid is detected
(4) There is an access error in the internal memory.
(5) Temperature alarm (out of range in set lower limit or upper limit) is
detected

Output 3 (alarm output) turns ON when the alarm indicator is illuminated.

The alarm indicator and output 3 (alarm output) will usually not turn ON if a
longer response time is selected. Set the response time longer to avoid the

■ Zero-point reset
Always perform the zero-point reset after the initial reset at the completion of the
installation.
This will perform the acquiring of the density information at the initial usage of the fluid
and correction of the offset difference by the installation orientation.
When performing the zero-point reset, perform when the flow is completely
stopped with completely filled with the fluid (it is recommended to install valves
before and after the sensor main unit, and both valves closed).
Also, it is recommended to perform the zero-point reset periodically to reduce the
effect of the temperature characteristics of the sensor unit and effect of the
accumulation in the detection pipe.

• More than 1000: It is necessary to take measure for the vibration.

<<Confirming the effect of vibration>>
Make sure the pipe is filled with the fluid, close the valves before and after the sensor,
run the equipment, and check the value of the diagnostics mode. Following measures
can be taken if it is getting affected.
Lower limit error • Use vibration absorption rubber on the mounting of the unit
This is displayed when the temperature of the measuring pipe is lower than the lower • Change the mounts of piping to anti vibration type
limit setting. • Change the mounting position of the sensor to location with less vibration
Alternately
flashes <<Confirming the effect of bubble>>
If there was no effect by the vibration, it could be effect of the bubble or combined
factor. It is necessary to consider the inner pressure of the pipes, size of the pump,
operational rotation speed, opening and closing of the valves, etc., to decrease the
volume of the bubble, so perform the adjustment looking at the values.
Note Pressing any key will clear the temperature error display, but the alarm indicator and
alarm output will not be cleared.
