WALES: *General: -Location: one of the 4 countries of the United Kingdom.

-Total area: 20779km2 -Population: 2937000

-Territoty: Wales has over 1,680 miles (2,700 km) of coastline and is largely mountainous with its higher
peaks in the north and central areas.

-Capital: Cardiff

-National symbols: dragon, daffodil and leek

-language: welsh and English

-flag: The flag of Wales consists of a red dragon passant on a green and white field. As with
many heraldic charges, the exact representation of the dragon is not standardised and many renderings
exist

(43°F) at low altitude in the winter months.

and government, and it provides concomitantly fewer jobs in financial and business services

-Religion: The 2021 census recorded 46.5 percent had “No religion”, more than any single religious
affiliation, up from 32.1 percent in 2011. The largest religion in Wales is Christianity, with 43.6 percent of
the population describing themselves as Christian in the 2021 census.

*Education:Largely state funded and free-at-the-point-of-use at a primary and secondary level,

education is compulsory for children in Wales aged five to sixteen years old. It differs to some extent in
structure and content to other parts of the United Kingdom, in the later case particularly in relation to
the teaching of the Welsh language.

- State funded nursery education is typically offered from age three. Children usually enter fulltime
primary school at age four, enter secondary school at age eleven and take their GCSEs at age 16. After
that, young people have the option of staying at school to study A-levels or enrolling in further
education. From the age of 18, they might enroll at university.

- The development of Education in Wales was historically closely linked to its development in England.
Previously an elite concern, schooling became accessible to a growing segment of the population
between the 16th and 19th centuries. In the late 1800s, compulsory education was introduced for young
children before being expanded into adolescence over the following decades. At the end of the 20th
century, education was mostly placed under the control of the devolved Welsh Government.

* Government and politics

-leader of wales:
Charles III is the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and 14 other
Commonwealth kingdoms.

First Minister: Mark Drakeford (First Minister of Wales, Assumed office13 December 2018

Prince of Wales: is a title traditionally given to the heir apparent to the English and later British throne.

Government: Parliamentary system, Constitutional monarchy, Decentralization

Politics in Wales forms a distinctive polity in the wider politics of the United Kingdom, with Wales as
one of the four constituent countries of the United Kingdom (UK).

Constitutionally, the United Kingdom is a unitary state with one sovereign parliament delegating power
to the devolved national parliaments, with some executive powers divided between governments.
Under a system of devolution adopted in the late 1990s three of the four countries of the United
Kingdom, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, voted for limited self-government, subject to the ability
of the UK Parliament in Westminster, nominally at will, to amend, change, broaden or abolish the
national governmental systems. As such, the Senedd (Welsh Parliament; Welsh: Senedd Cymru) is not de
jure sovereign. Since then, further Welsh devolution has granted the Senedd additional powers.

Executive power in the United Kingdom is vested in the King-in-Council, while legislative power is vested
in the King-in-Parliament (the Crown and the Parliament of the United
Kingdom at Westminster in London). The Government of Wales Act 1998 established devolution in
Wales, and certain executive and legislative powers have been constitutionally delegated to the Welsh
Parliament. The scope of these powers was further widened by the Government of Wales Act 2006.

*Other:

-Holiday: St David’s Day, 1 March,…

-Sport: Rugby is the national sport here

-Food and drink:

-Food: Traditional Welsh dishes include laverbread (made from Porphyra umbilicalis, an
edible seaweed); bara brith (fruit bread); cawl (a lamb stew); cawl cennin (leek soup); and Welsh cakes.
Cockles are sometimes served as a traditional breakfast with bacon and laverbread. Although Wales has
its own traditional food and has absorbed much of the cuisine of England, Welsh diets now owe more to
the countries of India, China and the United States. Chicken tikka masala is the country's favourite dish
while hamburgers and Chinese food outsell fish and chips as takeaways.

-Drink: Penderyn whisky is the most famous Welsh spirit, and perry and cider have certainly gained in
popularity, but beer is considered by most to be the national drink of Wales.

-Landscapes: Cardiff, Snowdonia National Park, Swansea, Brecon Beacons

Wales is a country with distinctive traditions, heritage, and culture. It is known as a land of song and a
country steeped in myth and legend, which, when you see the awe-inspiring landscape, is no surprise.

What impresses me most about Wales is its capital - the city of Cardiff. Cardiff is one of the most livable
cities in Europe in particular and the world in general. Cardiff seems to have everything you need. It only
takes about 30 minutes to drive, you can completely leave the bustling city to relax on the mountain
peaks in the fresh Brecon Beacons or relax on the Costa del Barry beach with cool blue water. Besides,
the residential area located in the heart of Cardiff Street is a bright spot because it is considered the
most impressive residence in the world with the symbol of the City Hall of the City and the National
Museum. These two sites both have beautiful locations and possess one of the most impressive
collections of French painting styles including precious works from Renoir, Rodin, and Monet. More
interestingly, the British city of Cardiff is also the filming location of a series of world-famous reality TV
shows such as Doctor Who, Stella, Gavin & Stacey, and Torchwood. This city left a deep impression on
me
