1ST QUARTER
ICT (Information & Communication Technologies) – deals with the use of different communication
technologies such as mobile phones, telephones, internet, etc. to locate, save, send & edit information.
Philippines is considered as “ICT Hub of Asia” because of BPO or Business Process Outsourcing
(presence of call centers). Companies from other countries outsource in the Philippines to cut their production
costs.
WEB 1.0, 2.0, 3.0
Internet & web or World Wide Web is 2 different things. Internet refers to the global network of servers of
information that makes the information sharing that happens over the web possible.
Web 1.0 – it is static (read only)
Web 2.0 – dynamic and interactive
Features of Web 2.0
1. Folksonomy - allows users to categorize information through the use of keywords like tagging
(hashtagging).
2. Rich user experience – content is dynamic & is responsive to user’aas input.
3. User participation – users can interact with other users in a website by commenting, sharing,
etc.
4. Long tail – services are now time-based in pricing or are file size-based. ( prepaid data)
5. Software as a service – users can now subscribe to a service as needed. (1 year subscription of
anti-virus)
6. Mass participation – diverse information sharing through universal web access.
Web 3.0 – semantic web.internet of thins.(cloud computing, allows inanimate object to be wired with
processors & connected by sensors allowing them to communicate on their own.)

Convergence – the synergy of technological advancements to work on a similar goal or task.
Social Media – a website, application, or online channel that enables web users to create & modify use-
generated web content.
Social networks –allow users to connect with other people with the same interest. FB, Google+
Bookmarking sites – allow users to store & manage links to various websites & resources. Pinterest,
StumbleUpon
Social news – allow users to post their own news or links. Reddit, Digg
Media sharing –allow users to upload & share media content. Youtube, spotify, IG
Microblogging – stes that focus on short updates from the users. Twitter

b. Worm –it uses a computer to spread itself. I love bug worm created by a Filipino, Onel de Guzman
on May 10, 2000.
c. Trojan – disguised as useful program but once downloaded & installed leaves your PC unprotected.

d. Spyware – a program that runs in the background without you knowing. It has the ability to monitor
what you are doing.”keylogger”
e. Adware – designed to send you advertisement pop-ups.
Spam – unwanted emails
Phishing – acquire sensitive information like passwords & credit cards details. Pharming is a complex phishing
that exploits the DNS system (Domain Name Service).
Tips to Stay Safe Online
1. Be mindful of what you share online & whom you share it to.
2. Read terms & conditions.
3. Check out the private policy of a website.
4. Know the security features of the social networking site you use.
5. Do not share your password to anyone.
6. Avoid logging in to public network/wifi.
7. Do not talk to strangers online or face to face.
8. Never post anything about a future vacation.
9. Add friends you know in real life.
10. Avoid visiting untrusted websites.
11. Add password on private network/wifi.
12. Install & update an antivirus on your computers.
13. Avoid downloading from untrusted websites.
14. Buy the software.

Microsoft Word is a word processor.
MAIL MERGE – a feature allows you to create documents & combine or merge them with another
document or data file.
Form Document – the document that contains the main body of the message.
Data File – includes the recipients’ information.
Merge field/Place holder – marks the position of your form document where the recipient’s information is
inserted.
To go to mail merge, click MAILINGS on the ribbon tab.
LABEL GENERATION – to design & print your address labels, shipping labels & product labels in
Winword/MS Word.

Text Wrap – adjusts how the image behaves around other objects or text.
MS EXCEL
Microsoft Excel provides an automated way of displaying any statistical data.
Accounting Number Format – is a number format that is used for accounting.
Orientation – the angle at which a text is displayed.
Count – a function used to count the cells with content in a range.
Sum – a function used to compute for the summation of the number of a range.
Average – a function used to compute for the average of the number of the range.
COUNTIF – used to count the cells with a specified content within a range.
SUMIF – used to compute to the summation of a range if a certain condition is met.
AVERAGEIF – used to compute for the average of a range if a condition is met.
Range – the range of cells where you want to look for the criteria.
Criteria – a value or label that determines if a cell is part of the range to be averaged.
Average Range – is the actual range of cells that will be averaged, if omitted, the range will be used
instead.
MS POWERPOINT
Microsoft PowerPoint is used to create presentation.
Creating an Effective Presentation
1. Minimize –keep slides count to a minimum to maintain a clear message.
2. Clarity – font should be simple. Font size 72 is about an inch on the screen.
3. Simplicity – use bullets or short sentences.
4. Consistency – make your design uniform.
5. Contrast – use light font on dark background & vice versa.
Hyperlink - a text or object that contains a link to another file, web page, a place in the document, a link to a
new document or email address.
Using Hyperlinks in MS Powerment
Use hyperlinks to easily navigate slides during presentation.
Existing file or web page – a hyperlink from a file on your hard drive or from a website.
Place in this document – a hyperlink that allows you to jump from one slide to another.
Create a new document – creates new document from your specific location.
Email address – creates a hyperlink & opens MS Outlook that allows you to add specific recipient.
Embedding an Object on your Presentation
You can insert an Excel file that would look like a table on a presentation.
Click INSERT to embed an object.
1. Create new – creates a new file from scratch.
2. Create from file – creates a file from an existing file saved on your hard drive.

1. Balance – deals with the visual weight of objects, texture, colors, & space.
2. Emphasis – the area designed to attract the viewer’s attention.
3. Movement – guides the viewer’s eye around the screen.
4. Proportion – visual element that creates a sense of unity where they relate well with one another.
5. Variety – uses several design elements to draw the viewer’s attention.

Infographic –information graphics used to represent information, statical data, or knowledge in a


graphical manner.

Kinds of Infographics
1. Flowchart or process – refers to information streams, your logistics or the steps in doing something.
2. Timeline – tells a story in relation to time. It takes users/viewers on to a journey.
3. Versus – head to head comparison of 2 things.
4. Data visualization – the most used type of infographics uses a cool graphic to paint a data powered
picture.
5. Photo – a photograph that includes some texts to guide the user.
6. Visualized article – meaningless algorithms, percentages & charts in were put together in graphic.
7. Useful bait – attracts attention and is usually found in a doctor’s clinic or a classroom to give important
information.
8. Number crunch – used to process a bunch of number of data for the viewers to understand it better

Piktochart – a free platform used to create infographics.

Photoscape – is a free image manipulation tool.

1. Viewer – view images & change image orientation.
2. Editor – alters the appearance of a single image.
3. Batch editor – alters the appearance of multiple images.
4. Page – arranges several photos to create a single one, similar to a mosaic.
5. Combine – links several images together to form a bigger image.
6. Animated GIF – allows users to create an animated GIF from several pictures.
7. Print – prepares images for printing.
8. Splitter – divides a photo into several parts.
9. Screen capture – captures the screen & saves it.
10. Color pickrt – grabs a pixel from the screen to be used in editing.
11. Raw converter – converts raw images to .jpeg.
12. Rename – allows users to rename a batch of photos.

Photobucket – is an image hosting site.
Bandwidth – amount of data used to download your image by multiple users.
In photobucket, you can upload from the computer, facebook, & URL.
1. View uploads – view photos you just uploaded.
2. Share album – shares everything you just uploaded.
3. Edit photo – used to manipulate your image.

Online Platforms – are online websites created to aid users in creating web content & info like text, images,
& videos. Help users in creating web content.

1. Presentation or visualization – prezi, soho, slideshare mindneister, piktochart
2. Cloud computing – cloud storage, google drive, evernote, dropbox
3. Networking – social media, facebook, tumbler,

Online Platforms for ICT Content Development
1. Social Media Platforms – “one size-fits-all” platforms that allow users to create not only personal
account but also pages & groups where you can share content. Facebook
2. Blogging Platforms – (wordpress, blogger, and tumbler) focus on content & design.
Content Management System (CMS) – a computer application that allows you to publish, edit, manipulate,
organize, & delete web content.
Wordpress – a free blogging platform
Theme – the overall design of a website.
Cloud computing app – is an online storage that does not need any installation.
Advantages
1. No need to install
2. Saves hard disk space.
3. Easy access to your software/files; can be ran as long as there is internet
4. Saves you money from buying software licenses & additional hard disk space.
5. No need to update because it updates automatically
6. Minimum system requirement
7. Back up & data security are relatively easier than in physical device
Disadvances
1. Can be hampered down by slow internet speed; no internet, no cloud computing
2. May still require compatible software like browser
3. You do not own the software, you are simply renting it
4. Security of doing things over the internet as opposed to your personal computer
alone
5. Nore prone to hacking
6. Limited control over the infraistructure itself
How to create a blog using wordpress
1. Sign up by visiting www.wordpress.com
2. Create your first blog (if it is your first time)
3. Pick a blog address.

Creating a Website using MS Word
1. Open MS word.
2. Type anything like welcome to my website.
3. Click on file <save as> brouse
4. On the save as dialog box, create a new folder named “sample webpage.”
5. Specify the filename “sample webpage.”
6. On the save as type, select “webpage (*.html;*.htms).”
7. Click the change title button, change your title then save.
8. Check the file on your sample webpage folder.
HTMLl – stands for hypertext markup language
CSS – stands for secondary style sheets
Jimdo – is a free website provider with a wysiwyg editor.

1. Hover your mouse pointer over the site navigator.
2. Click on the navigation button. Click on add a new page.
3. Rearrange pages using the tools on the right of the page title. Save.

3. Online Games – “browser-base games” are online games that you don’t need to install.
4. Online Tests – online survey forms & tests that automatically display the result when you finish.
( IQ tests & personality tests)
5. Courseware – online courses that simulate the classroom (e.g. E-learning).
LMS or Learning Management System – is a software application for the administration,
documentation, tracking, reporting & delivery of educational courses.
6. Podcast – an episodic series of audio or text files streamed online. (Stuff You Should Know, TED
Talks)
7. Vodcast – an episodic series of videos streamed online. (YouTube series)

THE ROLE OF ICT IN RECENT PHIL. HISTORY


1. EDSA (People Power Revolution – happened in EDSA on Feb. 22-25, 1986 through the
encouragement of Cardinal Sin. He used Radio Veritas.
2. EDSA Dos – happened on January 17-21, 2001, during the impeachment trial of Joseph
Estrada. It would have not been successful if not for the text brigade.
3. Million People March – a series of protest that happened in Luneta Park from August 22-26,
2013. It happened to condemn the misuse of Priority Assistance Development Fund (PDAF). In
spite of the name, only 400,000 people joined the event.
4. Yolanda People Finder – typhoon Haiyan or Yolanda was formed on Nov. 3, 2013. It has its
first landfall in the Philippines on Nov, 8, 2013. It left Phil. territory on Nov. 11, 2013. The
Yolanda people finder was created by google to help relatives find their family members.
5. 2016 Presidential Election – Pres. Rodrigo R, Duterte was elected president. The election
happened on May 9, 2016,
Change.org – a free platform for signing & creating petition. It is a website that contains campaigns for social
change.
Concept Paper – a document used to convince panel of potential funders to help a product, program or service
become a reality.
5 ELEMENTS OF A CONCEPT PAPER
1. Introduction – includes your group’s mission vision & a brief introduction of your project.
2. Purpose – includes the reason why the project was created.
3. Description – includes all the necessary information about the project.
4. Support – contains the budget needed for the project.
5. Contact Information – includes information on how the group can be contacted.

SIMPLIFIED ICT PROJECT PROCESS OVERVIEW


1. Panning – involves the ff. tasks (but are not limited to):
a. Conceptualizing your project
b. Researching on available data about your topic
c. Setting deadline & meetings
d. Assigning people to various tasks
e. Finding a web or blog host
f. Creating a site map for your website
g. Listing down all applications that you need
h. Funding ( if applicable)
2. Development – involves the actual creation of websites & production of content.
3. Release & Promotion – opening your project to the public.
4. Maintenance – responding to feedback from the audience & adding additional content.

Site Map – is a model of a website’s content designed to aid both users & search engines navigate the site.
XML (extensible markup language) document provides instructions for search engine crawl bots.

Facebook Fan Page – is a way for entities like business, organizations, celebrities & political figure to
represent themselves on facebook.
To create a facebook fan page using android, click the menu bar – pages – create page.
MONITORING STATISTICS ON DIFFERENT PLATFORMS
Iin WordPress, log in and click MY SITE – STATISTICS

In FACEBOOK – on your FB page, a summary of statistics will appear on the right side of your cover photo.
Hover your mouse to POST REACH to get more insight.
Click the INSIGHTS tab located at the top of your page to get more in-depth statistics.
a. Overview – contains the summary statistics of your page.
b. Likes – contains the summary statistics of your page likes.
c. Reach – contains information about the number of people who was reached by your posts.
d. Visits – contains the number of times your page tabs are visited (e.g. timeline).
e. Posts – contains data showing when (date & time) your visitors visited your site.
f. People – contains statistics about your visitors’ demographics (age, location, gender, language
& country), as well as the people you have reached & engaged with.

FACEBOOK DEFINITION OF TERMS


1. Reach Organic – your posts seen through the page’s wall shared by users & the news feed.
2. Reach Paid – your posts seen on paid ads.
3. Post Clicks – number of click don on your posts.
4. Likes, Comments & Shares – actual interaction done by your audience.

Google forms – a tool used to get user feedback
Feedback – allows your site visitors to have a say about the site’s strengths & weaknesses.
Text – a question that can be answered by a short text
Paragraph Text – a question that can be answered in a long text
Multiple Choice – is a question that can be answered by only one answer in a set of options.
Checkbox – a question that can be answered with multiple answers in a set of options
Scale – a question that can be answered with a numerical range
Grid – questions that contains sub-questions with similar options

Cybercrimes – are illegal acts done through the use of the internet.
1. Phishing/Spoofing – the act of sending emails to multiple users in hopes of having a number of
them clicking on the links or malware attached to the email.
2. Blackmail/Extortion – the act of using the internet to threaten or damage someone’s reputation
to extort money or anything else of value.
3. Accessing Stored Communication – or hacking is the act of obtaining unauthorized access to
data from a computer network.
4. Sports Betting – the act of wagering on sports event on the internet.
5. Non-delivery of Merchandise – the act of devising a scheme in which the culprit posts on an
item or service for sale on the internet & once the transaction is done, does not really give the
item or service.
6. Electronic Harassment – the act of anonymously using the internet to harass, abuse, threat or
annoy other people.
7. Child Pornography – the act of using the internet to display erotic behavior with a child in the
picture.
8. Prostitution – the act of using the internet to engage in prostitution.
9. Drug trafficking – the act of selling illegal drugs through the internet.
10. Criminal Copyright Infringement – the act of piracy mainly for financial gain.

1.Network Security – firewall, secure connection, password, anti- malware & data encryption.
Encryption – the process of converting raw data into code.
2. Investigation – URL tracing & logging are used by websites to track your unique IP addresses.
3. Penalties – laws are being created & implemented against cybercrimes.
